The Salem Memorial District Hospital regular board meeting was held Monday evening in the Hospital Library. Controller Stephanie Wofford stated that for the month of May there was an operating loss of $4,852 for the month with an excess of expenses of revenues for the month of $1,718. During the month, there was a decrease in cash of $445,657 and the accounts receivable increased by $397,921. This caused the days in accounts receivable to rise to 57 for the month from 54 in April. There were 759 emergency room visits for the month, 1,875 outpatient registrations, 176 ambulance runs with 173 patients being assessed, 28 surgery cases, 183 home health visits, 11,169 lab tests, 1,131 radiological procedures, 260 CT scans, 23 MRI scans, 13 nuclear med scans, 490 rehab treatments, 228 dialysis treatments and 342 clinical visits. The hospital auxiliary raised $1,050 for the hospital BBQ week and $1,095 from Laurie’s Shoes. Their next fundraiser will be a bedsheet fundraiser on July 15^th. The hospital received a letter from Governor Jay Nixon for sending an ambulance to Joplin to help with the disaster there after the tornado. In the construction update, footings have been poured for the long-term care expansion as well as some other concrete work that had been held up due to the wet weather. Renovation also continues in the administration area as well as in the chapel and patient waiting area with some painting and wall work. Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that a family doctor and his wife visited Salem during the month and he thought the visit went well and will be in touch with them. Kasey Lucas went over the Electronic Medical Record conversion as the CPSI test server has been installed and user based logins would begin in July. He said that Allscripts on-site practice management for billing is set up and the EHR configuration will be held July 12^th.  Pryor said that the hospital continues to gather information for the hospice program; and that the foundation committee, Hospital Attorney Mark Weaver and Pryor will meet with the auditors from BK&D after Independence Day to review the bylaws. At the Health Screening held in May, there were 239 participants with the next health screening to be held on September 7^th and 8^th. Pryor reported that things look promising for the Salem TCRC as the Council for a Healthy Dent County joined the partnership to help offset the loss of US Foodservice and the University of Missouri. The board approved adding Kasey Lucas, Gloria Hayes and Evelyn Land to the authorized users for Lock Box #2724, and adding Kasey Lucas as an authorized user for Lock Box #2725. The board approved the budgeted purchase of three exam stools with soft casters for Long-Term Care for $336 from Automated Business Systems, an anti-fatigue and anti-microbial mat for the lab for $286 from C&H, and a Bipap/ventilator System for Cardiopulmonary for $10,982 from Phillips Respironics. The board then went into closed session.

Matt Holliday and Colby Rasmus belted solo home runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a three-game interleague series at Camden Yards. Nick Punto added a pair of hits, including an RBI single, while David Freese also had a pair of hits for the Cardinals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kyle Lohse (8-4) worked five innings to pick up the win, yielding four hits while fanning two and walking one. He didn't pitch after a 27-minute rain delay. Fernando Salas went 1 2/3 innings in relief to seal the win for St. Louis. The game marked the first time in the regular season of an appearance in Baltimore for the Cardinals. The two teams play again tonight starting at 5:30 on KSMO.

Cameron Maybin finished 3-for-3 and scored twice, while Kyle Phillips posted the go-ahead RBI double as San Diego got past Kansas City, 4-2, in the second of a three-game interleague series. Jeff Francoeur homered and Matt Treanor added an RBI for the Royals, who slid to their eighth loss in 10 games. Felipe Paulino (0-2) was charged in defeat with 11 hits and four runs despite seven strikeouts over seven innings. The Royals and Padres play this afternoon in San Diego.

Football camp will start Monday, July 11^th at Salem High School. Camp for grades 7 – 9 will be held July 11^th through July 15^th from 9:00 am to 11:15 am and will meet in the high school weight room each morning. Camp for Grades 10 – 12 will be held July 11^th through July 22^nd from 5:20 pm – 8:30 pm. Cost for each is $25.
