The Bunker Centennial will be celebrated today and Saturday. A dedication ceremony will be held at noon today in the Bunker City Park located on Highway A and Main Street. Booths and entertainment will also begin at noon. A gray granite stone will be placed near the flagpole to commemorate 100 years. The Bunker ladies will display their old fashion dresses, followed by the Miss Bunker Beauty Pageant to be held at 6:30. Musical entertainment by the LaChance family of Ellington will begin at 7:00. Booths will open at 8:00 Saturday morning and festivities will include a parade of more than 40 entries at 10:00. Following the parade, a recognition ceremony will be held. There will be various groups providing music entertainment throughout the day. Other activities will include a horseshoe pitching contest, an antique car show, food stands, a quilt raffle and display, clogging and games for children, tours of the Bunker School facilities and the historic Union Church. Ample parking space will be available. The members of the Bunker Centennial Planning Committee welcome everyone to “Come Home to Bunker” for this historic event.

The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. At the meeting, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that Mr. Clark with the chip and seal company, APAC, will be in Salem on Tuesday morning to inspect the roads to be chip and sealed with the commissioners. He also said that he received a letter from DNR about their remonumenting permanent boundary corners with the county surveyor and he will get in touch with Craig Ruble. In the road report, Simpson said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 418, 419, 424A, 609, 651A and 555. He said that brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 411, 628 and 628A. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that Dent County Road 221 is still being rebuilt. He said that workers will be repairing the chip and seal on the Round Pond Road and Pomeroy Road, and they will service a gravel truck. Tune stated that brush was being cut on Dent County Road 530. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the MREPC meeting on Wednesday and there is a $7,000 grant available for Hazmat training for local fire departments with an application deadline of September 20^th. Curley also reported that she received the final report from the Dent County Assessor and the new assessment for the county is $148 million. That amount is subject to change with equalization meetings. The meeting of the Dent County Commissioners is Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. and the meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen held a special meeting Thursday afternoon to adopt the 2007-2008 fiscal year budget. The budget includes the lease of six new vehicles for the Salem Police Department, a 3% raise across the board for employees, a new truck for the water department, a new trailer for the street department, the asphalting of streets, and a new truck and a building addition for the electric department. Total labor costs for the new fiscal year are expected to be $2,385,460, the total capital expenditures are budgeted at $1,211,744, the total maintenance costs are expected to be $409,800 and the total amount of miscellaneous expenses are budgeted at $4,825,945. Expected revenues for the next fiscal year are $8,985,030 with expected expenditures of $8,946,674 and that leaves a budget surplus of $38,356. The board then approved bill #3101 that adopted the budget. Mayor Gary Brown then stated that the trailer court at 701 East Center Street has not yet applied for a license. As of midnight Saturday night, they will be in violation of city ordinances. The city then must send a letter from the city stating they have five days to apply for a license or their utilities will be shut off. The meeting then adjourned.

The annual "Sunday at Montauk" event will be held Sunday at Montauk State Park near Salem. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free and open to the public. Crafters will display their wares and demonstrate a variety of talents and skills between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in an outdoor shaded area adjacent to the open picnic shelter. Tours of Montauk Mill, a gristmill built in 1896, will be available. The mill is located across the road from the event area. Visitors are urged to bring their lawn chairs, sit under the large old walnut shade trees and enjoy an assortment of live musical entertainment on stage from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entertainment will include folk, bluegrass, fiddle, old-time string, country, square dance and clogging tunes. A large ground-level wooden platform will be available for dancers. Ample parking will be available in the large parking lot adjacent to Montauk Mill and in an open field nearby. Food and refreshments provided by the park's Dorman L. Steelman Lodge will be sold at the open picnic shelter.  Montauk State Park is located 22 miles south of Salem on Highway 119. Funeral services for Joseph Crocker of Viburnum, age 45, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Sam Crocker Cemetery, Goodland Mo.

Funeral services for Carl D. Fuhring of St. James, age 76, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Gary Johns, Jr. of Salem, age 22, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gary Johns Jr. family.

Graveside services for Don Fox of Licking, age 60, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Concord Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Memorials may be made to the Texas County Library-Licking Branch.
