The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting this morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 6210, while materials were going to be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 6500. He also mentioned that materials were being added to Dent County Road 5150, that brush was being cut on Dent County Road 6490 and that a man was screening brown rock at the Road and Bridge Department.  Commissioner Purcell reminded motorists traveling Route B that extra caution should be observed, especially at the junction with Dent County Road 5220, as there will be heavier than normal traffic from asphalt trucks. Purcell noted that the heavy traffic will continue for the next three to four months to supply the MoDOT projects on Highways 19 and 32-72. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that maintenance was being performed on graders and three men were hauling and stockpiling dirt at the Road and Bridge Department.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Council meeting he and Commissioner Larson attended on Tuesday. Skiles said the Council has approximately $160,000 from DNR available for Waste Reduction and Recycling Grants. The grant applications are available at the MRPC office and are due in to the office no later than noon August 30th.  Skiles went on to say that for those needing assistance with their grant application there would be a Grant Application Workshop August 6th at MRPC. Skiles also reminded constituents that re-cycling bins are available free of charge at MRPC.  Skiles also attended the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday.  The Committee oversees preparedness for and handling of hazardous materials accidents such as anhydrous ammonia leaks and other hazardous materials.  Skiles also updated the Commission on the Department of the Interior White River Watershed Blueway designation and stated that many of the original sponsoring organizations are distancing themselves from the issue and some are abandoning their support.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley noted that she had received word from Secretary of State Jason Kandor that the Special Election on June 4th was “one of the largest Special Elections in over a decade.”  Curley also noted that the election cost Dent County $14,838.88 and that she will be applying to the state for full reimbursement which will go into general revenue.  The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a Special Meeting, called by Mayor Gary Brown, tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:00 pm. Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, announced the Patrol's participation in Operation Dry Water. Operation Dry Water is a national campaign in which marine law enforcement officers from across the country coordinate special patrols during the last weekend in June to achieve a high visibility of boating under the influence enforcement. Troopers will focus their efforts this weekend to detect and apprehend intoxicated operators. Missouri boat operators found to have a blood alcohol content of .08% will be arrested for boating while intoxicated. A vessel operator with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit runs a significantly increased risk of being involved in a boating crash. Special enforcement operations will continue throughout the summer months. Boaters are reminded that designating a sober skipper is always the safest bet if alcohol is going to be included in their boating experience.
