During the past 30 months, officers assigned to the South Central Drug Task Force have been conducting covert narcotic operations in and around Phelps County. During this investigation numerous suspects were identified. On Tuesday, June 24th law enforcement officers from the Rolla Police Department, St James Police Department, Salem Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, and Dent County Sheriff’s Office assembled at the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department. At 6:00 that morning, after a detailed briefing and being divided into six teams, officers departed on the first 2014 warrant round-up. While the teams were searching, administrative personnel began gathering intelligence to support the teams. During that process five individuals were located who had been incarcerated just prior to the operation. Those individuals were: 22-year old Seth German of Rolla for distribution of marijuana, 29-year old Daniel Jewel Wilson of Edgar Springs for distribution of heroin, 41-year old Percy D. Golden of St Robert for distribution of methamphetamine, 35-year old Jackie Mullins of Cuba for distribution of morphine, and 26-year old Robert B. Bishop of Doolittle for manufacturing methamphetamine. Upon arrest by the teams, the following suspects were transported to the Phelps County Jail. They include: 36-year old Michael P. Valley of Rolla for distribution of methamphetamine, 22-year old David A. Ridenhower of Doolittle for manufacturing methamphetamine, 40-year old Suzannah Marie Strom of Rolla for distribution of heroin, 20-year old Tristin Allen Paul Affolter of Doolittle for distribution of hydrocodone, 20-year old Timmoundes Lamark Mack Jr of Rolla for distribution of marijuana, 22-year old Sarah L. Sagel of Newburg for two counts of distribution of Xanax in public or government assisted housing, 55-year old Henrietta Taber of St. James for attempting to manufacture Methamphetamine, 54-year old Ronald D. Taber of St James for attempting to manufacture Methamphetamine, 31-year old Johnny L. Watring of St James for attempting to manufacture Methamphetamine and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (Hydrocodone and Morphine), 37-year old Michael R. Trumbo of St James for four counts of distribution of Methamphetamine and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, 30-year old Kristal D. Edmonds of St James for possession of drug paraphernalia, 51-year old Richard Charles Maddox of Salem on three counts of possession of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine, Heroin and Alprazolam), 50-year old Belinda G. Kankolenski of Edgar Springs for two counts of distribution of Oxycodone, 19-year old Trevor Kenneth Moon of Gravois Mills for one count of distribution of Marijuana near a secondary school and two counts of distribution of Marijuana, 54-year old Ronald D. Taber of St James for attempted manufacture of Methamphetamine, 19-year old Holly Clayton of Rolla for two counts of distribution of Oxycontin, 42-year old Rebecca L. Clayton of Rolla on two counts of distribution of Oxycontin, 51-year old Penny L. Royal of Licking for distribution of Hydrocodone, 62-year old Kathy R. Kasprazak of Edgar Springs for manufacturing Marijuana and felony possession of Marijuana with the intent to distribute, 62-year old Thomas R. Kasprzak of Edgar Springs for manufacturing Marijuana and felony possession of Marijuana with the intent to distribute, 32-year old Jedadiah L. Sherman of Newburg for distribution of Methamphetamine, 19-year old Kalib J. Aungerer of Rolla on two counts of distribution of Marijuana, 20-year old Joshua Allen Burbey of Rolla for distribution of Marijuana, and 26-year old Joshua Lee Brazzle  of Rolla for possession of Methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia and possession of Marijuana and associated paraphernalia. All are being held on bond for various amounts.

The City of Salem Finance Committee will hold a meeting, called by City Administrator Ray Walden, today at the City Hall Council Chambers at 1:00. The meeting will be to consider the FYE 2014/2015 budget and is open to the public. 

A Livestock Marketing Meeting will be held tonight at the old city hall beginning at 7:00 pm and this is a MANDATORY MEETING for all 4-H and FFA market animal projects and 4-H cured ham project members. It is also recommended that other 4-H’ers or Clover Kids exhibiting an animal at the Expo attend this meeting to receive information concerning the livestock set-up and schedule of events.

It’s the Great American Backyard Campout at the Current River State Park on Saturday, June 28th on Highway 19, south of Salem. You will be able to enjoy programs on Leave No Trace at 11:00 in the morning, do a Stream Team macro invertebrate sampling at 1:00, Hug a Tree at 3:00 and enjoy an evening campfire starting at 7:00. Matt Carpenter's two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the deciding run as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied for a 9-6 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with an RBI to aid the comeback and Matt Adams contributed a pair of hits, including a two-run homer. St. Louis promoted left-hander Marco Gonzales, their first-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, from Double-A Springfield to make the start. The 22-year-old allowed five runs on seven hits over five innings while walking two and striking out three. To make room for Gonzales on the roster, shortstop Pete Kozma was designated for assignment. After clearing waivers, Kozma was optioned to Triple-A Memphis before yesterday’s game. The Cardinals will start a four-game series with the Dodgers in L.A. tonight. You can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 8:35.

A.J. Ellis brought in the winning run in the eighth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers grabbed a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a three-game series. Lorenzo Cain and Jarrod Dyson each hit a solo home run for the Royals, who have lost six of seven. James Shields allowed four runs on seven hits over seven innings. Wade Davis (5-2) allowed the winning run to take the loss. The Royals have the day off today before hosting the Angels for three-games starting on Friday.

Ronald Liesman of Rolla, age 79, passed away June 22nd. There will be no visitation and private graveside services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Betty Sandefer of Sullivan, formerly of St. James, age 83, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Graveside services for Betty A. Dudley of Columbia, Illinois, formerly of Salem, age 80, will be held Sunday at 1:00 at the North Lawn Mausoleum in Salem. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary #99 in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
