The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Sunday, June 3^rd at 7:03 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of South Gertrude in reference to an overdose. The investigation revealed that a 48- year old Salem female, who was intoxicated, interfered with paramedics attending to the overdose victim and became violent. Further violent actions led to the arrest of the suspect. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Monday, June 4^th at 9:37 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Bowling Center in reference to a suspicious subject. That investigation revealed that an intoxicated 17-year old Salem male was creating a disturbance and would not leave the premises. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, issued a summons to appear in court, and was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Tuesday, June 4^th at 2:30 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 28-year old Salem female who had an active warrant from the St. James Police Department. She was taken into custody on the warrant and later released with a court date after posting bond. At 2:34 that same afternoon, an officer transported a 46-year old Springfield female to the Popular Bluff Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Wednesday June 6^th at 7:45 in the evening, an officer transported a 51-year old Salem male to West Plains Mental Health Facility in lieu of a mental commitment order. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will be conducting their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After the agenda is approved, the board will hear from Jerry Craig, Chairman of the Planning & Zoning Commission, who is concerned about not having an updated City Map with all the annexed property and the zoning of properties. He is requesting direction from the Board on this issue. Tracy Brakefield will then discuss with the Board the possibility of purchasing the Old Middle School Gym from the City. In unfinished business, City Administrator Clayton Lucas presented the bids for Employee Health Insurance at the last meeting and the Board postponed any decision until they had a chance to review the bids. He will present his findings. Bill Huffman, Director of public works & engineering will update the Board on completed, present and future projects. Aldermen Kenneth Nash, Jerry Randell, Haydn Powell and Philip Giacomelli will discuss items concerning the City before Mayor Gary Brown gives his report. During the Introduction of bills, and resolutions, Bill #3257, an ordinance amending Chapter 22, Article IX, Section 22-112 and Section 22-113 and adding Section 22-114 of the Code of Ordinances of the City pertaining to the possession and use of fireworks within the City limits will be presented. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will then present bills over $3,000 for approval. The Board will then address changes to the meeting dates in July. There will then be a discussion of the employee pay scale, cemetery fees at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, hanger rental fees at the airport and a new electric rate that was discussed at the budget meetings. All budget adjustments will be presented to the Board for the 2011-2012 budget, and then the 2012-2013 budget will be presented to the Board for their approval. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing litigation, real estate and contracts. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting is open to the public. 

State and local officials will officially cut the ribbon to celebrate the completion of three new bridges in Dent County. The three bridges are located on Route 32 over Spring Creek, Route H over Holt Creek, and Route NN over Dry Fork. The ribbon cutting will take place rain or shine at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28^th at the Route H bridge located just west of Route DD. The public is invited to attend.  Parking will be available near the bridge site. The three bridge replacements are part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 802 of Missouri's worst bridges by the end of 2012.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in the community’s 2012 4^th of July parade on Wednesday, July 4^th.  This year’s theme is “America’s Past, Present and Future” and it will start at 6:00 PM. The Grand Marshall this year is Ed Gill, a lifelong Salem resident and businessman, who achieved the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade in the United States Navy. Gill served aboard a minesweeper during the Invasion of Normandy in WWII. A one hundred dollar prize will be awarded to the best “Commercial” and “Non-Commercial” float. Carlos Beltran hit a three-run homer and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Kansas City Royals, 11-8, to complete a three-game series sweep. Yadier Molina added a solo homer for the Cardinals, who recorded their first three-game sweep in Kansas City since 2009. Allen Craig and Matt Holliday each had two RBI and two runs scored. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn allowed six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. Victor Marte (1-1) recorded the final two outs in the sixth to pick up the win. Mike Moustakas hit a pair of home runs for the Royals, who were outscored by a 30-14 margin over the three games. Billy Butler and Jeff Francoeur also homered. Jonathan Sanchez gave up six runs on four hits over 5 2/3 frames. He walked six and struck out three. Tim Collins (4-2) allowed five runs, four earned, on three hits over 1 2/3 innings to take the loss. The Royals will host the Tampa Bay Rays tonight to start a three-game series. The Cardinals will be in Miami tonight to start a three-game series with the Marlins. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio at 5:35.

The St. Louis Cardinals have activated outfielder Jon Jay and first baseman/outfielder Matt Carpenter off the 15-day disabled list and optioned first baseman Matt Adams and outfielder Adron Chambers to Memphis. Jay had been on the DL since May 16^th while Carpenter had been sidelined since May 23^rd.

The Kansas City Royals have activated catcher Salvador Perez was from the disabled list. Because Perez is returning from the 60-day DL, the Royals had to make corresponding moves to clear space on both their 25 and 40-man rosters. And they did so by optioning pitcher Tommy Hottovy to Omaha and transferring outfielder Lorenzo Cain to the 60-day DL. They also designated pitcher Roman Colon for assignment and selected the contract of pitcher Francisley Bueno from Triple-A Omaha.

St. Louis Blues’ goaltenders Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott were presented with the William M. Jennings Trophy, given annually to the goaltenders for the team with the fewest goals against. Blues' Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong was also has named the 2011-12 General Manager of the Year. In addition, defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was named to the NHL's second all-star team, becoming the first Blue to be named to an all-star team since Chris Pronger was named to the second all-star team in 2003-04.
