An accident happened Saturday morning at 1:37 on Route HH in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a white 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by 45-year old Shane Hogan of Salem was traveling northbound on Route HH. The Dodge crossed the centerline and made contact with a gray 2003 Chevy K-1500 driven by 29-year old Aerica Misuraco of Salem that was traveling southbound on Route HH. Hogan suffered extensive injuries, while Misuraco and a passenger, 22-year old Billy Richmond, suffered moderate injuries. All were transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.    

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving burglaries and thefts. On May 26th at 9:24 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 400 block of East Ninth Street in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence and took $220 cash, credit cards, a checkbook and other items valued at $750. On May 28th at 8:26 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 800 block of North Hickory in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a green 2001 Chevrolet and took $300 cash from a purse. On May 29th at 8:48 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 1400 block of South Gertrude in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took 13 rings, four pairs of earrings and three necklaces valued at $2,000. On June 3rd at 8:09 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 900 block of South Macarthur in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered a residence by force and took a card file with keys valued at $20. On June 4th at 7:00 in the evening, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took four ATV wheels and tires from the yard of a residence located on Highway 32. The wheels and tires are valued at $600. Anyone with information regarding the burglaries or thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An update on a report released by The Dent County Sheriff’s Department involving a stolen 16-foot JJN Enterprise trailer on Monday at 1:00 in the afternoon.  At 11:17 Monday evening the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received information pertaining to the 16-foot trailer that the victim was notified that a relative had borrowed the trailer and it had not been stolen.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce announces that the Annual Independence Day (4th of July) Parade entitled, “Freedom Begins At Home” will be held on Friday, July 4th beginning at 5:00 pm. The parade route will be the same as last year. Beginning at the old fairgrounds, proceeding down McArthur Ave. to Fourth St. ending at the Court House. Those clubs, businesses, groups, organizations or individuals interested in being in the 4th of July parade need to fill out an entry form by no later than TODAY and return the form to the Chamber office located at 200 South Main or fax to the Chamber at 729-6741. Each entry will be contacted with their line up location and time. Please be sure to enter a contact phone number or email for your entry. Please remember that no ATV’s will be allowed in the parade and all drivers must be licensed. For more information, please call the Salem Area Chamber at 729-6900. Publications or pamphlets passed out during the parade do not necessarily reflect the opinions or thoughts of the members of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce or the Chamber Board. The city will have vendors and crafters at The Commons during the day along with a car show and entertainment. Fireworks will be held at The Commons starting between 9:00 and 9:30. If you are a vendor, crafter, flea marketer or food vendor and would like to have space to set up your wares, stop by the City Hall Administration Building at 400 Iron Street and speak with Karen, or for more information call 729-4811. There are no set-up fees charged for this event.

Brendan Ryan went 3-for-4 with a two-run double and scored, and the St. Louis Cardinals doubled up the Detroit Tigers, 8-4, in a rematch of the 2006 World Series. Yadier Molina went 3-for-5 and scored twice for the Cardinals, who took the opener of this three-game interleague matchup and have won three of four. Braden Looper (9-5) allowed seven hits and four runs in six-plus innings, striking out three and walking one to get the win. Brian Barton had two hits including a home run, and Skip Schumacker had a two-run pinch single for St. Louis who gained a game on the Chicago Cubs in the Central Division. The Cardinals and Tigers play again tonight at 5:45 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Alex Gordon hit a two-run home run and Zack Greinke was effective on the hill, as the streaking Kansas City Royals beat up on the Colorado Rockies, 7-3, in the second of a three-game, interleague set at Kauffman Stadium. Greinke (7-4) lasted six innings and gave up three runs on nine hits while fanning 10 batters. Ron Mahay and Ramon Ramirez combined to throw three innings of one-hit relief. Ross Gload and Mike Aviles each had two hits and an RBI for the Royals, who have won four in a row and nine of their last 10 games overall. Kansas City has won nine of its last 10 games against the National League and is a major league-best 11-3 in interleague play this year. The two teams play again tonight in Kansas City.

Kansas City Royals did claim pitcher Robinson Tejeda off waivers Tuesday and transferred pitcher John Bale to the 60-day disabled list.

Funeral services for Effie M. Smith of Salem, age 93, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be Thursday at 1:00 in the Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Charles.

Graveside services for Jeffrey Brooks of Empire, Alabama, formerly of Steelville, age 45, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the New Home Cemetery in Cherryville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Graveside services for Hannah Grace Sullins of Salem, age 19 months, will be held at Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Boone Creek Cemetery. Visitation will also be Thursday from 9:00 until 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.

Funeral services for Harold W. Malone Sr. of St. James, age 78, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
