The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning.  For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2410, 4210, 4215, 4220, 5610, 5615 and 6350.  Purcell also stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5400, rock would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4220 and 6640 and a driveway culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 5015.  District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2550, 2560, 3140, 3270, 3273 and 3275.  Larson also said that rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 4260 in the Boss area and brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 2510 and 5240.  Commissioner Larson spoke with MODOT this week and they will be loaning Dent County an asphalt machine to repair chip and seal on Dent County Road 3210 starting next week.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management meeting that he was to attend on Tuesday was cancelled and has been rescheduled for next week.  Skiles also reported that the Commission has received the annual Supplemental Child Support Agreement for the 42nd Judicial Circuit.  The agreement states that all counties within the 42nd Judicial Circuit will share cost in enforcing child support cases.  The Commissioners voted to request proposals for engineering services for the Sweeney Bridge project; proposals will be opened Thursday, July 14th at 10:00 am.  The Commission also put out bids to perform a compliance and financial audit on 2010 federal grant money.  Bids will be opened on Monday, July 18th at 10:00 am.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released their reports. On Friday, June 17th at noon, deputies were advised of a theft that occurred at the intersection of Highways K & E. Deputies were advised the victim a 59-year old male of Salem, had the vehicle registration, plates and catalytic converter removed from his vehicle by an unknown. At 9:00 pm that evening, deputies responded to the 3500 block of County Road 6510 for a report of a burglary. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 62-year old male, and a 61-year old female, both of Salem were the reported victims. The victims stated that a brown leather saddle valued at $125 was taken without the owner’s consent from the barn on the property. On Saturday, June 18th at 4:00 in the afternoon, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 32 East in Salem near Carty Street, when the driver of a vehicle was stopped for a lane violation. As a result of the stop, the driver, Brandy Schmidt of Sullivan was arrested for driving while intoxicated-prior offender, and driving while revoked. Schmidt was taken to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office where she was later released. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

The Annual Salem Area Chamber of Commerce July 4th Parade with the theme “Stars and Stripes” will begin at 6:00 pm on Monday, July 4th and run from the old fairgrounds to the Historic Dent County Courthouse. All entrants must fill out a parade “entry form” and those  “entry forms” need to be returned to the Chamber of Commerce office no later than Monday, June 27th. Football camp will start Monday, July 11th at Salem High School. Camp for grades 7 – 9 will be held July 11th through July 15th from 9:00 am to 11:15 am and will meet in the high school weight room each morning. Camp for Grades 10 – 12 will be held July 11th through July 22nd from 5:20 pm – 8:30 pm. Cost for each is $25.

Lance Berkman capped a six-run eighth inning with a three-run homer, and the St. Louis Cardinals pounded the Philadelphia Phillies, 12-2, in the finale of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Matt Holliday, Jon Jay, Ryan Theriot, and Tony Cruz each knocked in two runs to support a solid outing by Chris Carpenter (2-7), who limited Philadelphia to one run on five hits, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings. St. Louis won for just the third time in its last 12 contests and joined idle Milwaukee atop the NL Central standings. The Cards start a three game series with the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at 6:40.

Juan Miranda and Miguel Montero both hit solo homers to help the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Kansas City Royals, 5-3, in the finale of a three-game interleague series. Matt Treanor and Alcides Escobar had an RBI apiece for the Royals, who have lost five in a row and seven of eight overall. Felipe Paulino (0-1) remained winless in a Kansas City uniform despite pitching into the ninth. He allowed five runs on nine hits to go with eight strikeouts and one walk. The Royals start a three game series with the Chicago Cubs this weekend.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced that they recalled right-handed pitcher Lance Lynn from Memphis (AAA) and have given right-handed reliever Miguel Batista his unconditional release. Lynn, 24, made two starts for the Cardinals earlier this season, going 1-1 with a 5.23 ERA. He has compiled a 7-3 won-loss mark with a 3.84 ERA in 12 starts (75.0 IP) for Memphis.  Batista, 40, fashioned a 3-2 mark with a 4.60 ERA in 26 games (29.1 IP) for the Cardinals.

Funeral services for Donald Nathan Albertson of St. James, age 84, will be held today at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in St. James with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Don Earl Olive of St. James, age 84, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the High Gate Baptist Cemetery. Memorails may be made to the High Gate Baptist Cemetery.

Funeral services for Bernice Marlow of Lenox will be will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Mae Hutson of Salem, age 73, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation is tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Lenny Hewkin of Steelville, age 74, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Saturday. Interment will be in the Turnbough Cemetery.
