The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting in the hospital library tonight beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the May 20
th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the summary of operations and statistics reports for May and will also update the Board on the auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then update the Board on the nursing services and ancillary service reports. In old business there will be a strategic planning update, the Board will discuss the hospital lagoon, a budget approval for the year 2011 and address the hospital foundation committee. In new business, the Board will discuss the SBU Smartboard, the hospital organizational chart and purchases for the hospital. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.
The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, consent agenda and communications; Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will address student recognition, summer school and Show-Me Technologies. In old business the Board will approve the A+ handbook. In new business the Board will consider approval of the new program evaluation schedule as well as hear program evaluations for foodservice, technology, career ladder, the professional development plan and discipline. The Board will then consider approval of the 2010/2011 professional development plan, address a 2009/2010 budget update and a resolution for WADA 7% transfer. The Board will then consider approval of the 2010/2011 budget, the developmental preschool building lease, discuss approval of several Board policies, updated job descriptions and also address resignations. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing student issues and personnel. The monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education tonight is open to the public.
Intercounty Electric Cooperative 74th Annual Meeting will be held Friday, June 25th at the Licking City Park. Registration will be from 8:00 am to Noon, with the business meeting at 10:00 am and a BBQ picnic lunch at 11:30. For more information call 866-621-3679.
The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by AmerenUE to adjust the infrastructure system replacement surcharge (ISRS) on the bills of its natural gas customers. The surcharge first appeared on customer bills in April 2008. The ISRS adjustment reflects infrastructure replacement investments made by the natural gas company from June 1st, 2009 through March 31st, 2010. These costs for natural gas pipeline replacements and relocations are not currently included in AmerenUE's rates. Residential customers currently pay a surcharge of $1.62 a month. The ISRS will be adjusted to $2.06 a month. The change is scheduled to go into effect by July 11th, 2010. AmerenUE serves approximately 126,000 natural gas customers in 26 Missouri counties.

rd the Salem Police Department received information from the United States Secret Service in reference to counterfeit $50 bills circulating in Missouri. The Secret Service stated that the counterfeit $50 bills are showing up in the St. Genevieve and Iron County areas. The Salem Police Department would like to advise the public as well as local businesses to be on the alert when transactions are performed with cash using $50 bills. If you spot what you believe to be a counterfeit $50 bill, call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Matt Holliday continued his strong play with the decisive base hit in the ninth to score the game’s lone run and secure a 1-0 Cardinal win against Toronto. Chris Carpenter (9-1) made the late-inning heroics possible by controlling the Blue Jay bats for eight innings in his second career start versus his former club. The right-hander yielded only three hits, walked four and struck out seven. Albert Pujols went 4-for-5 while Randy Winn collected three hits and scored the lone run as St. Louis won for the fourth time in five games. Ryan Franklin got a key double-play ball in the bottom of the ninth, on the way to his 14th save. The Cardinals go for the sweep of the Blue Jays tomorrow at 5:45 on KSMO.
Jose Guillen’s single in the fifth inning scored David DeJesus for the only run of the game, as the Kansas City Royals defeated Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals, 1-0, in the finale of a three-game interleague series. Guillen finished with two hits and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, while DeJesus also had a pair of hits for Kansas City, which snapped a five-game slide. Brian Bannister (7-5) earned the win for surrendering only five hits, two walks while striking out four in six innings of work. Joakim Soria notched his 17th save of the season with a perfect bottom of the ninth. The Royals have the day off tomorrow.
The United States completed its FIFA World Cup group stage with a 1-0 win over Algeria on Wednesday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium thanks to a 91st minute winner from Landon Donovan. With the U.S. pressing, needing to win to advance to the second round, a counter-attacking goal by Donovan in second half stoppage time put the Americans through. Donovan’s 44th career international goal clinched Group C’s top seed for the Americans, who play Ghana in the knockout round on Saturday.
The St. Louis Rams have signed safety Oshiomogho Atogwe to a multi-year contract. Atogwe started 12 games in 2009 before a shoulder injury ended his season. He still finished second on the team with 82 tackles, adding one sack and two interceptions. The Stanford product has 19 interceptions in 72 career games for the Rams.
The SMDH Family Medicine will be offering sports physicals for $20 to all school aged children participating in sports activities on July 1 from 1:00 to 7:00 in Physician’s Office Building 3 on the hospital campus. They will accept a check, cash or credit card for payment as no insurance will be filed. Parental consent is needed for any child under the age of 18 either by being there in person or having a signed permission form giving permission for the exam. A dietician and physical therapist will also be available to help with questions. Appointments are encouraged by calling 729-8000, but walk-ins will be accepted with a parent or guardian, or if the child has a signed consent form.
The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will he held July 12th thru 15th and July 19th thru 22nd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for girl's entering 9th through 12 grades and from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for girl's entering 6th through 8th grades. The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will be held at the blue field next to the old armory, the cost is $20 per camper and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Funeral services for Charles Cook of Licking, age 66, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Interment will be in the Craddock Cemetery.
Funeral services for Ovie Sumpter of Bunker, age 75, will be held today at 1:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Oates, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services for Eva Skiles of Salem, age 92, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
