The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5100, 5103 and 5105, and also in the Sinkin Township on Dent County Roads 5610, 6303, 6305, 6540 and 6550. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5615, and a crew would be patching chip and seal in the Shawnee Mac Lake area. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that the entire District 2 crew would be spreading asphalt and patching the chip and seal on Dent County Road 3210. Tune said that he met with a FEMA representative and he has three more project worksheets to turn into FEMA for reimbursement. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be attending a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting today in St. James starting at noon. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she attended a County Clerks Training Session last week in Kansas City where it was predicted that there will be an 80% voter turn out for the November Presidential Election. Curley also wanted to remind voters that if they have had an address change since the last election to please contact the clerk’s office with your new address. Trish Rogers with the Central Ozarks Private Industry Council came by the meeting to let the Commission know that COPIC received a grant that will become effective July 1st to operate a “Storm Clean-up and Repair Crew.” The crews will be assigned to a county to help road crews clean up or fix any damage that was done because of the spring floods with no cost to the county. The Commission said they do have minor jobs, such as cleaning out culverts, cutting trees and limbs out of the roadway, and other odd jobs but would talk with each district road crew supervisor before getting back with Rogers. Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks stopped by the meeting to continue the discussion she had started with the Commission at last Thursdays meeting about the concerns she had with her office moving to the new building that the county purchased from Mark Weaver and Kelly Parker. Sparks said she is not in favor of moving because of the cost and also because of the computer system her office uses, which is a secure system that is connected to other offices in the Judicial Building. Sparks suggested that the Extension office move to the new location. Commissioner Simpson said that Judges Kelly Parker and William Camm Seay will be at Thursdays meeting to discuss the new building and have requested that Sparks be in attendance. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a DWI and stealing. On Friday, June 20th at 11:50 in the evening, while on routine patrol a Dent County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit on Dent County Road 6180. A vehicle stop was made and upon further investigation the driver, a 25-year old male, was cited for exceeding posted speed limit and operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition.

A new concession contract has been awarded for the management of the store and lodging and dining facilities at Montauk State Park near Salem according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The new concessionaire will be Forever Resorts, LLC, based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, and the new contract will begin Oct. 1, 2009. Doug Eiken, director of the department's Division of State Parks, would like to express his gratitude and thanks to James and Mary Coffman for the 18 years of service to Montauk State Park and its visitors. The

Coffmans were the first concessionaires in the state park system to develop leasehold improvements when they constructed a four-plex lodging unit at the park. The new concessionaire was chosen following a competitive bidding process in accordance with state statutes and this occurs every time a concessionaire's contract is scheduled to expire. Forever Resorts was selected by a five-member evaluation team from a field of three bidders, including the incumbent concessionaire. The evaluation of bids, based on written plans and a personal interview, is in two parts. The first part is an independent, subjective evaluation on three main components: business plan; financial plan; and experience, expertise and reliability. The second objective part is the financial return to the state. The contract is for a 10-year term with renewal based on capital improvements.
