The Salem Police Department has released several arrest reports. On Tuesday, June 14th at 6:22 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the Mobil Convenience Store in reference to the theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that the driver of a gold Jeep Cherokee pumped $55.11 in fuel and left without paying. Later that night at 10:27, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of West Glendale Street in reference to a fight in progress. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old male of Salem for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated. On Wednesday, June 15th at 10:06 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took two push mowers valued at $225 from the yard of a residence in the 1200 block of South Louise Street. Later that afternoon at 12:40, an officer was sent to the Mobil Convenience Store in reference to a subject urinating in the parking lot. That investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year old male of St. Peters for disorderly conduct and open alcohol container. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. An accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Crawford County on Route H at Lick Creek Road in Leasburg. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Kia Sorento driven by 50-year old Sandra Guess of Steelville, was making a left turn onto Route H and struck a 2007 Ford Focus driven by 18-year old Sage Horel of Leasburg on the left front. Following the impact, both vehicles came to rest in a parking lot adjacent to Route H. Guess suffered moderate injuries while Sorel suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan by the North Crawford County ambulance. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Kia Sorento sustained extensive damage while the Ford Focus was totaled. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Brad’s Towing.

Enjoy a night of old-fashioned fun under the stars with your friends and family on Saturday, June 25th during the Great American Backyard Campout in Missouri state parks. The Great American Backyard Campout is a nationwide initiative by the National Wildlife Federation to encourage families and communities to reconnect and experience the outdoors. These parks in our area are participating in this year's Great American Backyard Campout and they include the Meramec State Park in Sullivan, Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park in Middlebrook, and Montauk State Park in Salem. The Ozark National Scenic Riverways will also host a Great American Backyard Campout Clinic at the Akers Ferry Group Campsite #1. The clinic is designed for beginning campers to try out camping with experienced park staff who can help ease their concerns and provide camping tips. Tents will be provided. Participants will need to bring their own food, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, flashlights, personal items, and anything else needed for a night of camping. Activities begin at 4:30 p.m. with sessions on Leave No Trace principles, River Ecology, and Campfire 101. Water shoes are encouraged during the River Ecology segment. Starting at 8:00 PM, campers will gather round a roaring campfire for s’mores, stories, and songs. Sessions are limited to 20 participants and advanced reservations are required. To get to Akers Ferry Group Campsite, go 24 miles south from Salem Missouri on Highway 19 and then take Route KK about six miles to the Akers Ferry Campground.  Reservations for the clinic can be made by calling the Round Spring Visitor Center at 573-858-3297 ext. 25, and asking for Ranger Sarah Schulte between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. And for more information about all Missouri state parks and historic sites, call the individual parks or the Department of Natural Resources toll free at 800-334-6946.

The Missouri Senior state basketball champions finished the first day of pool play undefeated on Tuesday. They defeated North Carolina 45-41 in their opening game, and then beat Texas NSD by a score of 51-19. Then on Wednesday, they defeated Massachusetts by the score of 46-28 to move into Flight A and a chance for the National Championship. Team members include Larry Sexton, John Brown, Steve Hauck, Joe Brickner, Rich Nieman, and Charles Pace.

Cliff Lee walked just one while scattering six hits in his second straight shutout, as Philadelphia downed St. Louis, 4-0, in the second contest of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Lee (8-5) has now tossed 23 straight scoreless frames and has surrendered just one earned run over the last 33 frames. Kyle Lohse (7-4) was the hard-luck loser, giving up three runs on seven hits in eight frames. The two teams play again tonight on KSMO at 6:40.

Xavier Nady knocked in a run and scored the eventual game-winning run in the fifth inning as Arizona held on to defeat Kansas City, 3-2, in the continuation of a three-game interleague series. Jeff Francis (3-8) allowed three runs on five hits through seven innings in the loss. He also struck out two and did not walk a batter as the Royals dropped their fourth straight. The Royals and Diamondbacks play again tonight.

Funeral services for Earnie F. Henson of Edgar Springs, age 78, will be held today at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Pilot Knob Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Edgar Springs.

Funeral services for Virgil Pierson of Licking will be held today at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Licking. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Harlene B. Sampson of Salem, age 62, will be held today at 1:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Donald Nathan Albertson of St. James, age 84, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in St. James with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Bernice Marlow of Lenox will be will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Mae Hutson of Salem, age 73, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.

Funeral services for Lenny Hewkin of Steelville, age 74, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Saturday. Interment will be in the Turnbough Cemetery.
