The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. For the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2400, 4080 and 5400 with material being hauled to 2400 and 4080 as well. Purcell also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6255 and a crewmember would be screening rock. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2160 and 2403 and brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 4280 and 4290. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a South Central Community Action Agency meeting on Tuesday in Winona, where it was announced that a School Readiness Event would be held on Thursday, August 9^th at the Salem United Methodist Church from 3–7 pm. More information will be available at a later date. Skiles also said that an Assist to Firefighters grant is available for emergency medical personal. The grant would help pay for emergency medical equipment, vehicles and other items needed to assist in an emergency. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind everyone that the deadline to register to vote for the August Primary Election is July 11^th and anyone with an address or name change needs to contact the clerk’s office at 729-4144 to update their voter registration information. David Baker came by the meeting to ask the commission about any specific qualifications they look at when it comes to hiring for the road and bridge department. The commissioners said the main thing they look at is an applicant’s driving record and they must pass the required drug test. Baker also wanted to know how the commission was reimbursed for mileage and Commissioner Purcell said the commission is reimbursed 35 cents per mile for any meeting they attend. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Friday, June 1^st at 6:15 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 38-year old male of Salem in the 1200 block of South Hickory who had an active warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody and incarcerated. That same evening at 8:57, an officer made contact with a 28-year old Salem female at the station that had an active warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody and was later released on bond. On Saturday, June 2^nd at 5:20 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of North Henderson in reference to a female urinating in the street. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that evening at 11:53, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of South Washington reference a domestic disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 27-year old Salem male, who was highly intoxicated, locked his girlfriend out of the residence and held a three-year old child in the residence wielding a knife. Officers forcibly entered the residence and apprehended the suspect without incident. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants for armed criminal action, 2^nd degree domestic assault, felonious restraint, resisting arrest and unlawful use of a weapon. On Sunday, June 3^rd at 12:12 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 38-year old male of Eminence for driving while intoxicated and careless and imprudent driving. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the U.S. Forest Service will dedicate $40.6 million for 27 exceptional land acquisition projects in 15 states that will help safeguard clean water, provide recreational access, preserve wildlife habitat, enhance scenic vistas and protect historic and wilderness areas. These projects will help ensure a long future of quality open space for those hunters and anglers, hikers, campers and other nature lovers who enjoy America's great outdoors. The funding will also reduce administrative costs and provide us increased flexibility in how we restore lands across the country. Lands are purchased from willing sellers at fair-market value or through partial or outright donations of property. Landowners may also sell or donate easements on their property that restrict commercial development while keeping the land in private ownership. The projects were selected through a competitive process based on ability to safeguard watersheds, provide recreational access, restore healthy forests, mitigate climate change, defend communities from wildfire, create management efficiency, and reconnect fragmented landscapes and ecosystems. In Missouri, $990,000 was dedicated to the Mark Twain National Forest for land, which includes prime riparian river frontage on the Current River. This land will help connect the existing national forest lands to the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Consolidating the lands will help protect watershed quality and provide maximum benefit for both resident and migratory wildlife species.

Quintin Berry hit a bases-loaded, RBI single in the bottom of the 10^th inning on Thursday as the Detroit Tigers edged the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Kyle Lohse was charged with one run on four hits and a walk in a seven-inning start with four strikeouts for the Cardinals. Matt Holliday accounted for St. Louis' lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Cards will be in Kansas City tonight to start a three-game interleague series at Kauffman Stadium with the Royals, who had the day off yesterday. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio at 6:35.

Lebron James had 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists, leading the Miami Heat to a 121-106 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night to win the NBA Finals in five games. James was also named the NBA Finals MVP.

Funeral services for Erma Jean Sparks of Rolla, age 75, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Betty Vickers Mohesky of Steelville, age 80, will be today at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Memorials may be made to the Steelville Ambulance District.

Funeral services for Frances Mae Gibson of Salem, age 74, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Clinton Elton “Bud” Flowers, Sr. of Salem, age 86, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors.

Thomas Edward Stevens III of Salem, age 69 passed away June 19^th in Rolla. Mr. Stevens wishes were to be cremated and no services will be held at this time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Russell House of Rolla.
