The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday night at the hospital library. For the month of May, the hospital had a gain from operations of $427,281 and an excess of revenues over expenses of $31,308 as outpatient registrations were at 1,758, and emergency room visits of 898 set a new record for the hospital. The cash flow statement indicated that there was an increase in the cash account of $61,110 as days in accounts receivable rose to 51 days, which is still very good. During the month of May, there were only 58 acute care patients admitted, but there were 324 acute care census days, which is more than budgeted. There were also 195 ambulance runs with 33 dry runs, 26 surgeries, 257 home health visits, 9,372 lab tests, 1,193 radiological procedures, 344 CT scans, 19 MRI scans, nine nuclear med scans, 365 rehab treatments, 184 dialysis treatments and 441 clinical visits. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that the Hospital Auxiliary Garden Tour to be held this month had to be cancelled due to the damages from the May 8^th storm. Pryor said that the asphalt is being replaced at the parking lot of Physician’s Office Building 3 at no charge to the hospital as the asphalt that was originally put down was defective. The board approved the fiscal year 2010 operating budget that includes an expected excess of revenues over expenses of $505,000 after taxes. They also approved the capital budget for fiscal year 2010. Pryor then mentioned that new officers of the board would be elected at the July meeting. Assistant Hospital Administrator Paul McVicker went over the status of where the Salem Hospital is with their electronic medical records technology. He said that the hospital is currently in between stages 2 and 3 out of a seven stage model, but they could be at stage 5 in a couple of years. The Salem Hospital has already put into place a number of operations, but still have to implement e-forms, chartlink, rehab and more. McVicker showed a proposed timeline that shows the hospital implanting a number of applications through June of 2011. McVicker said that this could be moved up somewhat if the hospital needed to take advantage of stimulus money. Overall, Salem is way ahead for a hospital of its size and already has two of the three clinics using the electronic medical records software. To help move to the next level, the board approved the budgeted purchase of the e-forms module for the Information Systems for $27,000 from CPSI. In the unbudgeted items, the board approved the purchase of ten Best recliners for Acute care for $3,210 from Southtown Furniture, and they approved the purchase of a new firewall for the Information Systems from Dell for $2,726. The board then went into closed session.

The City of Salem’s Finance Committee will hold a meeting, called by Mayor Gary Brown, at the City Hall Council Chambers this morning and it will begin at 10:00 am. The meeting is for the consideration of the budget for the 2009/2010-year. The meeting of the City of Salem’s Finance Committee is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving counterfeit bills. On Sunday, June 14^th at 8:15 p.m. an officer was detailed to the Casey’s General Store on South Macarthur in reference to counterfeit money.  The report revealed a cashier located a counterfeit bill in the cash drawer. On Monday, June 15^th at 8:23 a.m. an officer was dispatched to Progressive Ozark Bank in reference to counterfeit money.  The report revealed a counterfeit bill had been located from a deposit. On Wednesday, June 17^th at 10:00 a.m. an officer was detailed to Town and Country Bank on Highway 32 and Macarthur in reference to counterfeit money.  The report revealed two counterfeit bills had been deposited.  Anyone with any information regarding the counterfeit bills, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident happened Friday at 3:56 in the afternoon on Route C about ten miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Dodge Stratus driven by 32-year old Alisa A. Floyd of Lenox, ran off the right side of the road. Floyd overcorrected and the Stratus went off the left side of the roadway where it overturned and ejected Floyd. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital and was then airlifted to the University Medical Center in Columbia. The Dodge Stratus was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. Floyd was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.

Funeral services for Robert Gordon Jones of Rolla, age 74, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be today in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Hartsburg, Missouri at 2:30.

Funeral services for Liz Hinch of Steelville, age 57, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 9:00. Interment will be in the Keysville Cemetery in Keysville, Missouri.
