A bridge replacement project on Route H over Holt Creek in Dent County is complete. The bridge, located west of Route DD, was opened to traffic on Tuesday afternoon. Work began in May, and the Missouri Department of Transportation extends its thanks to motorists for their patience while the work took place. The bridge replacement is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 802 of Missouri's worst bridges by the end of 2012. Currently, over 730 of the bridges included in the program have been improved statewide.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released their reports. On May 23^rd, deputies received a report of a stealing that occurred in the 400 block of County Road 2230. Deputies discovered that a 31-year old male of Tucson, Arizona was the reported victim. He stated that he had sold some items, via the Internet, to a subject at that location and had the items delivered to County Road 2230. When the subject wasn't happy with the transaction, the victim refunded his money, but never received the parts back.  The suspect’s information was given and the investigation is ongoing. On Friday, June 15^th, a victim contacted the sheriff's office in reference to his house being broken into. The residence is located on Highway 68 North. Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings arrived on scene and made contact with the occupants of the residence. The victim stated that they had been gone from the residence since around 9:00 am and when they returned home they had found that the residence had been broken into. The suspects had attempted to gain entry by cutting the screen on a window at the north side of the home. Entry was made by the suspects by forcing open the back door. The items that were taken from the residence include: 1/2 of a Percocet, 25 Allegra allergy pills, 4 Naproxen, and a Smirnoff Whiskey Bottle Lamp with a tan lamp shade valued at $30. Also on Friday, June 15^th, deputies responded to the 2000 block of County Road 5240 for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 21-year old Salem female was the reported victim of the burglary. She stated that three males had attempted to enter her residence while she was inside. The victim gave information regarding the suspects and their vehicles and they were described as a white male approximately six-foot in height, stocky build, with a tattoo of a naked lady on one forearm and a full sleeve tattoo on the other arm; a white male with a thin build, long hair, goatee, and a tattoo on his neck; and a white male, from five-foot five-inches to five-foot eight inches in height with a thin build and bald. The vehicles were described as an older brown Ford truck with heavy rust and no license plates and a black Nissan truck with no license plates. Then on Sunday, June 17^th, at about 8:15 in the morning, a neighbor called the Sheriff's Office and reported that he heard noises at his neighbor's house on County Road 6633 and when he went over to check he saw a white male jump into a pick-up truck and leave from the area at a high rate of speed driving backwards down the county road. The investigation revealed that the suspect had entered into his neighbors trailer by forcing open the front door. The suspect had taken several items from the trailer and fled when the neighbor discovered him. Anyone with any information regarding these reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff's Office at 729-3241.

The National Weather Service announced that the Missouri Summer Safety & Lightning Awareness Week will be held June 24^th thru 30^th and encourages the public to help promote summer safety. Summer safety consists of lightning safety, heat safety, UV safety and flood safety. For more info visit www.crh.noaa.gov.

As a gentle reminder, the Missouri Department of Transportation is respectfully asking the public for their help in keeping the state-owned right of way clear of objects including political and other yard signs. The placement of yard signs on right of way can sometimes create a safety concern for motorists by blocking the visibility needed to safely proceed through an area as well as enter or exit driveways and streets. In other situations, the placement of a sign can become an obstacle for a driver to avoid in the event they must exit the roadway in an emergency. They can also make it difficult to mow or maintain the right of way. Also, it is dangerous for persons when installing or maintaining these signs to be on highway right of way in close proximity to traffic. When possible, MoDOT tries to identify and contact a sign owner before removing a sign. Once a sign is removed, it is held for 30 days and can be retrieved from the local MoDOT maintenance facility.
