Ryan Ludwick's homer off Jorge De La Rosa, leading off the bottom of the 14th inning boosted St. Louis to a 7-6 win over Kansas City in a marathon contest at Busch Stadium. De La Rosa (4-8), the listed starter for Friday's game against Milwaukee, served up a 2-2 pitch to Ludwick, who blasted it over the wall in center field, giving the Cardinals their fourth win in five games. Aaron Miles had five hits and scored three times for St. Louis, which had 17 hits and was victorious in the finale of the three-game set despite leaving 15 men on base. Kip Wells (3-11), the eighth St. Louis pitcher, got the victory in a game that lasted 5 hours, 21 minutes and featured 30 hits and six errors. Alex Gordon had four hits and scored once for the Royals, who lost the final two games of the series.Miles singled to start the ninth and scored on Albert Pujols' double, tying the game at 6-6. The Cardinals nearly won it in the ninth, but Ludwick struck out as a pinch-hitter with the bases full and Kelly Stinnett then fanned to send it to extra innings. The Royals left a runner on third in the 10th and the Cardinals left the bases loaded again in the 12th. So Taguchi struck out and Miles flew out to end that threat.
