The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving stealing. On June 14^th the department received a call from a resident located off of Highway 68 that reported an antique wooden croquet set in a green wooden box and a 5-gallon gas can which was full were taken along side her driveway. On June 25^th at 6:52 PM the department received a call of a dispute over a dog at the Whispering Pines Campground. Upon arrival the complaining party who stated other campers had taken her black lab met the deputies. The black lab was located in the possession of another party who claimed it was their dog. Investigation determined that black lab was owned by the complainant and was returned to her. Charges are pending on a 39-year old male for stealing the animal. On June 16^th at 4:00 PM, the department received a report that three canoes and a green trailer belonging to the Wild River Canoe Rental were missing from the Cedar Grove parking lot. Investigation revealed a gold colored Ford Ranger was seen in the area and was traveling in the direction of Texas County. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting tonight at 6:00 PM in the hospital library. Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics report for May. Director of Radiology Linda Knight will then be giving a PACS demonstration. The Director of Nursing will give the nursing services, ancillary services and auxiliary reports followed by the hospital activity calendar and legislative updates. Old business to be addressed includes the physician office building report, an information technology update and the strategic planning update. In new business, purchases will be discussed. After the regular meeting, the Board will then go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, contracts and pending litigation. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will hold their regular meeting tonight in the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 7:00 PM. After the approval of the consent agenda and communications, Superintendent Steve Bryant will address a legislative summary, discuss summer school along with a report on the buildings and grounds and present the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award. Old business will be to consider the student drug testing policy. New business to be addressed will include several program evaluations, the Board will consider the approval of the 2007/2008 Professional Development Plan, a PTO update, consider approval of the 2006/2007 budget amendments, and consider approval of the 2007/2008 budget. The Board will also consider the Developmental Preschool Building Lease, approve the 2006/2007 Core Data Certification, consider renewal of the TCRC support, consider the A+ Partnership Plan for 2007/2008, consider several Board policies and resignations. The Board may then close and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing litigation, real estate and personnel. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce “Yard of the Month” contest entries for June must be submitted by tomorrow. Anyone can nominate a yard by going by and filling out the form at the Chamber office at 200 South Main Street in the Visitor’s Center. Entries can also be called in at 729-6900. This contest will also be held in July and August.

Funeral services for Maudie Fay Coleman of Davisville, age 82, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 today. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

A Memorial Service for Charles E. Wood of Steelville, age 65, will be held Friday at 7:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00.

Funeral services for Joyce A. Wofford of Salem, age 73, will be held Saturday at 10:00 am at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Sonshine & Rainbow Day School, Licking Church of Christ or American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Ruby D. Smith of St. Louis, formerly of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Shane Edward Asbery of Portland, Oregon formerly of Rolla are incomplete at this time but under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Marvin Lester Vogeler of Rolla, age 81, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 on Monday. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Gideon’s International.
