The Salem Memorial District Hospital regular board meeting was held Tuesday evening in the Hospital Library. In the summary of operations for the month of May, inpatient admissions were down that helped lead to a loss from operations of  $85,274 with an excess of expenses over revenues after taxes of $81,542. This was the last meeting for hospital controller Stephanie Wofford as she will be replaced by Becky Cunningham. During the month, there were 873 emergency room visits with the average turnaround time of 115 minutes. There were 172 ambulance runs with 174 patients being assessed, 17 surgery cases, 1,887 outpatient registrations, 202 home health visits, 11,722 lab tests, 1,140 radiological procedures, 179 CT scans, 33 MRI cans, 17 nuclear med scans, 519 rehab treatments, 214 dialysis treatments and 358 clinical visits. The hospital auxiliary will be having a bed sheet fundraiser this Friday in the hospital library and that is open to the public. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said that all the construction work in the hospital was now complete and work on the lagoon will begin. Pryor stated that originally the cost of the project was around $45,000, but that was two years ago and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has changed their requirements since then. The hospital will now be required to have three holding tanks in case of the loss of electricity so the equipment alone for the project will be around $75,000 to $80,000.Pryor stated that he would not be surprised if this project would cost about $150,000 by the time it is completed. Pryor reported that the hospice project planning has been postponed until October. The health screenings for the month of May totaled 289 participants compared to 239 last year in May. The next health screenings will be held September 12th and 13th. Pryor went on to say that the foundation program committee would need to set a meeting date now that the by-laws have been approved. The Missouri Hospital Association will be kicking off the Community Health Needs Assessment program in July. This program will have to be completed by the hospital every three years to address community health needs. The board approved a number of budgeted purchases from Patterson Medical for Rehab including a Jemarkel Wristicisers Pro for $120, an Ideal Medical Bottle Gel Warmer for $136, a weight bar set of five for $157 and a Cando Five Piece Instability Pad Set for $170. The board also approved the purchase of a task chair from Automated Business Systems for $181, and two touchscreen monitors were purchased for the Emergency Room and Information Systems from SHI for $1,084. The board approved the non-budgeted purchase of a 700-pound Bariatric chair for Acute Care from NBF for $428 and a cordless exam light for the Emergency Room from Welch Allyn Kleenspec for $277. The board then went into closed session.
