The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5110, 5130, 6280 and 6283, and patching would be done on various chip and seal roads throughout the district. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 5170 and 6180 before moving to the Bunker area.  District 1 also turned in a FEMA Project Worksheet that will be submitted to the state for reimbursement. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that most of the districts crew would be on Dent County Roads 2300 and 3210 patching chip and seal, and a grader would be on Dent County Road 6160. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management meeting on Tuesday in St. James. At the meeting, the board stated that they are going to start contacting counties and asking them how many tires they have to get rid of before they bring a trailer to collect the tires, because it’s too costly to make the trip for just a few tires. Kelly Parker and Mark Weaver came by to finish up the paperwork that was involved with the counties purchase of their office building. The Commission also discussed with Parker the possibility of certain offices moving from the Judicial Building to the new office space. The issue of moving the Juvenile Office was brought up, because it was mentioned that it might cost up to $15,000 to move the Juvenile Offices computer system from its current location, but Parker said he would check into that before a decision is made. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting will be open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting at the hospital library Thursday evening. At the meeting, Controller Stephanie Wofford gave the summary of operations for the month of May that showed the hospital had an excess of expenses over revenues of $184.00. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported that during the month of May there were 829 emergency room visits with 76 transfers, 192 ambulance runs, 18 surgeries, 388 Home Health Care, 9,681 lab tests, 15 MRI tests, 299 rehabs, 293 CT scans, 1,186 radiological procedures, 156 dialysis visits, 14 mammograms, 26 nuclear med scans and 325 clinical visits. In the auxiliary report, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor said that their next fundraiser would be held August 13th when they hold a Bath and Beauty fundraiser. Pryor reported that work has resumed on Physician’s Office Building 3 and the shingles should be put on the roof next week, and doors and windows being installed as well. The expenditures to date on the new building are $654,008. Administrator Pryor stated that the May women’s health clinic had 106 participants, and the June men’s clinic had 76 participants.  Pryor reported that the equipment for the Missouri TeleHealth will be installed next Monday, June 23^rd. SMDH Education Director, Cindy Fry, presented an employee wellness program to the Board.  The “Commitment to Health” would encourage SMDH employees to participate in an exercise program, with the Board paying $10 per month per employee to the local Cardiovascular Wellness Program or Pure Fitness facility.  Employees would be able to participate in weigh-ins and win cash prizes.  SMDH Dietician Jason Edwards would also offer “Healthy Eating” educational seminars. The board approved this proposal. The board then approved the budgeted purchase of two Lead Aprons from Med1 Online for $198, a padding press from General Graphic for $205, an exercise mat for $183 and a VHI Exercise Software for $331 from Sammons Preston, a laundry scale from Burrows for $508, a Rotozip from Grainger for $187, a ratchet wrench set from Sears for $200, a DeWalt drill from Grainger for $272, a plasma cutter from Northern Tool for $800, a laser printer from Global Computers for $969, a metal storage shelf from InterMetro for $1,280, a handrail from Inpro for $1,795, two centrifuges from DiRuscio Assoc. for $8,205, and the board approved new roofing for Physician Office Buildings #1 and #2 for $32,385 to be installed by John Woods Roofing. They also approved the non-budgeted purchases of a desktop computer from ABS for $615 and 15 Windows XP license from CDW-G for $2,257. For the fiscal year 2009 budget that begins July 1^st, the board approved two signature devices from CDW-G for $1,635, ARDS from CPSI for $4,800 and a file cabinet from ABS for $185. Wofford reported that $42,250 of approved fiscal year 2008 capital expenditures were not purchased and can be added back into the budget. The board then went into closed session.

Mark Teahen finished 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBI, as Kansas City recorded a 4-1 win over St. Louis in the final test of a three-game interleague clash at Busch Stadium. Mark Grudzielanek added two hits, knocked in a run and scored twice for the Royals, who swept the series from their intrastate rivals and have won five games in a row overall. Zach Greinke (6-4) was fantastic on the hill, yielding just two hits and one run over seven innings with seven strikeouts. Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth for his 18th save. Rick Ankiel homered for the Cardinals, who have dropped four of their last six. Brad Thompson (1-2) suffered the loss by allowing five hits and two runs in five full frames. Kansas City starts a nine-game homestand by welcoming San Francisco tonight, while the Cardinals begin a nine-game sojourn in Boston starting tonight at 5:45 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Jamal Mayers from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round pick in the 2008 draft. Mayers was the longest tenure Blue having been with the team since 1997.

The National Hockey League's annual Entry Draft kicks off at 6:00 tonight at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, and the Tampa Bay Lightning will get the first shot at this year's pool of talented youngsters. Tampa Bay finished tied with the Los Angeles for the worst record in the NHL this past season, as both teams managed just 71 points. The Kings will have the second pick in this year's draft, followed by Atlanta, St. Louis, and the New York Islanders
