The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving stealing and a burglary. On Tuesday, June 17^th at 1:55 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a theft of concrete blocks, copper wire and copper tubing. The items were taken from the Gano Trailer Court. The investigation led to the location of the reported missing items. It was later determined the blocks were not stolen, but a 46-year old male was taken into custody and issued a summons for stealing between $50 and $100 involving the wire and copper tubing. Also on June 17^th at 3:30 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Department received a report of a burglary that occurred between June 7^th and June 17^th. The incident occurred at a residence located off of Dent County Road 2430.  Entry was gained by breaking a window out of the back door and another window from an inside door. Reported taken were a propane cook stove valued at $30.00 and miscellaneous papers valued at $50.00. The reported damage to the property was $310.00. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary is asked to please contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics for the month of May, the auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar and update the Board on legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will give the nursing services and ancillary service reports. In old business there will be a physician office building report, a strategic planning update and they will discuss the Missouri TeleHealth. New business will include the election of officers for the July meeting and hospital purchases. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold a workshop this morning beginning at 10:00 am in the City Hall Council Chambers for the consideration of the budget called by Mayor Gary Brown. The City of Salem Board of Alderman workshop is open to the public.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the William Lynch Elementary Building conference room beginning at 6:00. After the approval of the consent agenda, which includes the minutes from the previous meeting along with bills, the food service report and attendance reports, the Board will address communications. Superintendent Steve Bryant will then give a the board a legislative summary, address the summer school program, give a report on the buildings and grounds, and discuss a special board meeting scheduled for June 26^th. The Board will then hear several program evaluations, consider the approval of the 2008-2009 professional development plan, discuss the CIA-differentiated instruction-color test, receive a PTO update and approve the 2007-2008 budget. The Board will also consider the developmental preschool building lease, approve the special education compliance plan, consider the renewal of supporting the Salem TCRC, consider numerous board policies, select the final Board of Education candidates for an interview, address resignations and discuss a resolution for a GTB/Line 1 transfer. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing litigation and personnel. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

Maries County Presiding Commissioner Ray Schwartze was elected Chairman of the Phelps County Public Housing Agency, the organization providing subsidized housing assistance to very low-income residents in Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps and Washington counties. The group met Thursday, June 12^th at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission in St. James. Other officers elected were Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles as Vice Chairman and Gasconade County Presiding Commissioner Ron Jost as Secretary. The PHA contracts with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission to operate the program. It serves the counties of Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Washington and Phelps, with the exception of the city of Rolla, which has its own public housing authority. Housing assistance is provided to very low-income residents who meet federal income criteria and other eligibility requirements. The Phelps County PHA takes applications for rental assistance on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at its office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James. Alex Gordon hit the go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning, doubled, and scored twice as the Kansas City Royals edged the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-2, in the second of a three-game set. Brian Bannister (6-6) scattered nine hits and two runs over seven frames, with one strikeout and no walks for the Royals, who have taken the first two games of this interleague matchup. David DeJesus hit the game-tying solo homer in the eighth for Kansas City. Joakim Soria mowed down the Cards in the ninth, getting three outs on eight pitches, all strikes, for his 17th save. Kyle McClellan (0-2) surrendered both homers in the eighth for the Cardinals. Braden Looper took an unfortunate no-decision, allowing one run on five hits in his seven-inning start. Skip Schumaker went 2-for-4 and scored for St. Louis, which lost despite outhitting the Royals, 11-7. Anthony Reyes, St. Louis' scheduled starter for Thursday, was placed on the 15-day disabled list after the game with a right elbow strain. Brad Thompson was activated from the DL, and will start in his place this afternoon at 12:55 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with wide receiver Will Franklin on a four-year contract.
