The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Wednesday, May 30^th at 1:07 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of West Fourth in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 28-year old Salem female had assaulted a 24-year old Salem female. On Thursday, May 31^st at 9:00 in the morning, an officer responded to the St. Francis County Jail to pick up a 27-year old female prisoner of Farmington being held on an active City of Salem warrant. She was transported to Dent County Jail and incarcerated. Later that morning at 11:58, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took cash and tools valued at $500 from a residence in the 800 block of North Jackson. On Friday, June 1^st at 2:38 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to Second and Henderson in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem female for assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Tuesday, June 5^th, 32-year old Joshua Warner was arrested on a Pulaski County warrant charging him with two counts of possession of child pornography. The charges stem from an investigation by the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department and the Department of Homeland Security. As the result of an ongoing undercover investigation into the use of peer-to-peer networks to exchange child abuse images and videos detectives of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence on Hwy 28, south of Dixon in August 2011.  Officers seized computers and optical media for examination at the digital forensic lab in Salem.  The forensic examination of the computers found a number of child abuse video files. Any charges are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional operation comprised of investigators from various agencies. The Task Force provides services to Dent, Pulaski, Phelps, Crawford, Iron, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas, and Washington Counties. The Task Force provides investigative and technology expertise to assist law enforcement in South Central Missouri in the investigation and prosecution of cases where digital evidence may be involved, particularly crimes against children. The South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force is supported by funding made available through the federal Recovery Act –Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program administered by the U.S. Dept. of Justice & Mo. Dept of Public Safety, and from the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force with funds made available from the US Dept. of Justice’s PROTECT ACT.

The Doe Run Company has announced the retirement of President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Neil effective July 31, 2012, and the promotion of Jerry Pyatt, vice president and chief operating officer, to the president and CEO position, effective August 1, 2012. Current Vice President of Environmental, Health and Safety Aaron Miller will step into the role of vice president and chief operating officer on August 1. Pyatt brings more than 31 years of metals and mining industry experience to his new role. As COO, Pyatt directs all operations for Doe Run, which has grown to become the largest integrated lead producer in the Western Hemisphere. These operations include six mines, four mills, a primary lead smelter, a secondary smelter and two lead fabrication sites. Appointed to COO in 2001, Pyatt has been actively involved in the research and development of Doe Run’s proprietary lead processing technology, which is expected to replace traditional, high-temperature lead smelting. The company is progressing toward commercialization of the technology, which nearly eliminates air lead emissions and sulfur dioxide emissions. Prior to receiving his appointment as COO, Pyatt served as general manager for Doe Run’s Buick Resource Recycling Division, one of the most advanced lead recycling centers of its kind. When the site opened in 1991, Pyatt helped launch Doe Run’s secondary smelter as its chief metallurgical coordinator.

Route AC in Reynolds and Dent County will be reduced as MoDOT crews perform pavement repairs. This section of roadway is located between Route 32 and end of state maintenance. Weather permitting work will take place today through Thursday, June 21^st between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm daily. The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. The South Central Missouri 2012 Cattlemen’s Tour brought to you by Maries and Dent County and the MU Extension and will run from July 16^th to July 19^th. The tour departs on the 16^th at 7:00 am from the SC Regional Stockyards in Vienna. The first stop will be to the Southwest Research Center in Mount Vernon. Throughout their tour they will also make other stops to the Pasture Based Dairy Farm Tour in Monett, the Ratcliff Ranches in Vinita, Oklahoma, the Gray G Bar Ranch in Grainola, Oklahoma, the Stockyard City and National Stockyards in Oklahoma City, the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation in Ardmore, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma City National Memorial/Bricktown and the last and final stop on July 19^th will be at the Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri. The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in the community’s 2012 4^th of July parade on Wednesday, July 4^th.  This year’s theme is “America’s Past, Present and Future” and it will start at 6:00 PM. The Grand Marshall this year is Ed Gill, a lifelong Salem resident and businessman, who achieved the rank of Lieutenant Senior Grade in the United States Navy. Gill served aboard a minesweeper during the Invasion of Normandy in WWII. A one hundred dollar prize will be awarded to the best “Commercial” and “Non-Commercial” float.
