The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6630 and 6660. Purcell said the rest of the District 1 crew would be on Dent County Road 5680 putting in the temporary crossing over Sinkin Creek where the Swiney Bridge is closed and that was completed yesterday. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2320, 2330, 3190 and 3200; with rock also being hauled to 3190 and 3200. Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3220 and 3233 to prepare for the chip and sealing of that road. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that work is almost finished on the front entrance of the courthouse. Skiles said that some wood and brick had to be replaced along with minor roof repair. Larry Perry with Heartland Real Estate came by the meeting to ask Commissioner Larson about Dent County Road 3110. He has a client that is auctioning off land on that road, but a gate has been placed across the road by another landowner and is closed a portion of the time. Perry said that he has spoken with that landowner and he said that the road was no longer a county road. Commissioner Larson checked into it and found out the road has not been maintained by the county for seven years, so technically it is still a county road. In order for a county road to be closed the county must not of maintained it for 10 years or the land owner must go through the proper procedures according to the state to have it closed and that has not been done. Perry said that he would talk with the landowner again and update him on the status of the road. Sheriff Rick Stallings came by the meeting to update the commission on the Sheriff Departments monthly statistics. For the month of May the number of traffic stops doubled and the jail housed an average of 20 prisoners a day with the most being 25. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Current River Car Cruisers will be having a Car Show this Saturday around the Dent County Courthouse on the square, downtown. Registration will be held starting at 8:00 and the judging will start at noon. The registration fee will be $20. The first 50 entries will receive a goodie bag along with a dash plaque and a T-shirt. There will be music, games, food and fun with the proceeds raised going to Relay for Life and also the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The car show this year is being held in memory of Ken Ellis. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a disturbance, theft and a shoplifter. On Tuesday, June 15th at 12:43 a.m. an officer was detailed to the area of Pershing and Franklin Streets in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 30-year old Salem male for damage to private property. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 5:03 p.m. that evening, an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of South Gertrude in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took mail from a mailbox. On Wednesday, June 16th at 2:00 p.m. an officer responded to a call from Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 48-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft or shoplifting incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Baxton Owen of Salem won the Father’s Day Giveaway 2010 courtesy of MFA Agri-Services, MFA Greenspot, South-Town Furniture, Red Barn BBQ and KSMO Radio. Baxton won 2-tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, two tickets to a Gateway Riverboat Cruise, two tickets to Meramec Caverns, two free dinners from Red Barn BBQ and one car care package.

Two new souvenir items are available to help celebrate Salem's 150th Anniversary. Coffee mugs and commemorative coins are now on sale at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Main. The coffee mugs are 11 ounces and the commemorative coins have a solid brass core and are gold-plated. The mugs and coins are $10 each and will help fund additional activities and celebrate the Sesquicentennial. The ONCRC is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Souvenirs will also be available during the Salem Heritage Festival July 3rd through July 10th.

Scott Podsednik turned the game around with one swing, a three-run home run in the seventh inning, to lift Kansas City to a 5-2 come-from-behind win over Houston in the rubber match of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Victor Marte (2-0) grabbed the win with a scoreless inning in relief for the Royals. Anthony Lerew was solid in his first big league action this season, allowing two runs on three hits over six frames, while walking two and striking out seven. Joakim Soria picked up his 16^th save pitching the 9^th inning. The Royals will face Atlanta this weekend.

The Cards were off yesterday and will face the Oakland A’s this weekend. You can hear the games on KSMO Radio starting at 6:55 tonight.

The St. Louis Blues upgraded their goaltending status on Thursday, acquiring highly sought-after goaltender Jaroslav Halak from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forwards Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. The 25-year-old Halak went 26-13-5 with a 2.40 goals-against average and five shutouts during the regular season for the Habs. Eller spent most of last season with Peoria in the American Hockey League, and Schultz has played the last four years with Calgary of the Western Hockey League of Canadian juniors.

The St. Louis Blues also acquired forward T.J. Hensick from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for minor leage forward Julian Talbot. Talbot, 25, played 76 games for the Blues' AHL affiliate last season, the Peoria Rivermen, scoring 17 goals and collecting 15 assists. Originally signed by St. Louis as an undrafted free agent, Talbot has yet to appear in an NHL game.

The SMDH Family Medicine will be offering sports physicals for $20 to all school aged children participating in sports activities on July 1 from 1:00 to 7:00 in Physician’s Office Building 3 on the hospital campus. They will accept a check, cash or credit card for payment as no insurance will be filed. Parental consent is needed for any child under the age of 18 either by being there in person or having a signed permission form giving permission for the exam. A dietician and physical therapist will also be available to help with questions. Appointments are encouraged by calling 729-8000, but walk-ins will be accepted with a parent or guardian, or if the child has a signed consent form.

The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will he held July 12th thru 15th and July 19th thru 22nd from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for girl's entering 9th through 12 grades and from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm for girl's entering 6th through 8th grades. The Salem Lady Tiger Softball Summer Camp will be held at the blue field next to the old armory, the cost is $20 per camper and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Funeral services for Cloetta Gibbs Hubbs of Lake St. Louis, age 86, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Edgar Cemetery.

Memorial services for Randal Edward White of Salem, age 42, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) until service time. In lieu of flowers memorial are suggested to the family.

Funeral services for Orville E. Scheer of Rolla, age 75, will be held today at 11:00 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Funeral services will also be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in New Haven. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Toedtmann-Grosse Funeral Home in New Haven. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery in New Haven. Memorials are suggested to the redeemer Lutheran Church of Rolla, Bethlehem Lutheran Church of New Haven or the American Cancer Society for Lymphoma research.

A memorial gathering will be held for Chet Max Gilbert of Salem, age 81, Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.

Funeral services for Ruth Ann Vavra of Rural Steelville, age 70, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba.

Graveside services for Carl Martin White of Granite City Illinois formerly of Edgar Springs, age 67, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Edgar Springs Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Donald Wofford of Salem, age 76, will be Tuesday, June 22 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday night. Interment will be in the Miner Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Dr. Eugene Honeywell of Licking, 66, will be Tuesday, June 22 at 1:00 PM at the Pentecostal Holiness Church under direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking. Visitation will be Monday, June 21 from 3:00 until 8:00 at Fox Chapel. Burial will be in Chariton, Iowa Cemetery under direction of Fielding Funeral Home of Chariton. Memorial contributions may be made to TCMH Healthcare Foundation in Houston.

Funeral services for Carlton E. Gregory of Steelville, age 80, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Danny Sliger of Licking, age 63, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery.
