The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers at 7:00 PM. During the hearing of persons, Dennis Schafer wants to discuss concerns and issues of allowing outside vendors to come into Salem, sell their products and then leave the area and the effects it has on the local economy. During bids, the City requested bids to paint the 75,000-gallon water tank in which $50,000 has been budgeted in the 2006/2007 budget for this item and bids were requested to design and develop the new web site www.salemmo.com. Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs will present the agreement on the design and development of the new web site. In unfinished, MoDOT has sent the requirements for annexations and actions required of the City on annexation right-of-ways. Alderman Jim Jackson, Mike Whitley, and Bill Riley would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city along with Jim McDaniels who would like an update on the mosquito problem, and the fireworks for the 4th of July, followed by Mayor Gary Brown with his comments. Bill #3100 will be introduced which is an ordinance to authorize the Mayor to execute an agreement between the City of Salem and the County of Dent for joint development of the website and Resolution # 2-2007 which is a resolution giving formal authorization to make an application in the Dream Initiative Program. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will host a public meeting from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at the Licking City Hall. Those attending the meeting can meet with department staff to discuss a proposed wastewater treatment system that will serve the Taylor Estates Subdivision. The proposed system is a re-circulating sand filter designed to treat 15,540 gallons of wastewater per day.  Because of the surrounding geography, the facility's discharge must meet strict water quality standards, including disinfecting the wastewater with chlorine. Ronnie Atterberry submitted the application for the treatment system, which will discharge from the subdivision to a tributary of Little Piney Creek, June 30, 2006. The Department of Natural Resources, which is responsible for enforcing Missouri's water quality laws, is authorized to regulate the quality of water discharges, but has no authority to regulate the location of a discharge. For more information on the proposed permit, contact the department's Southeast Regional Office at (573) 840-9750.

U.S. Senator Kit Bond praised the decision by the U.S. Department of Interior to keep open the Mid-Continent Mapping Center in Rolla. This is great news for Rolla and the dedicated USGS workers. Most important, USGS will maintain the outstanding capabilities at the Rolla center, which is centrally located near the critical areas USGS has to supervise. The Mid-Continent Mapping Center employs over 130 skilled men and women. In 2006, the center was scheduled to be closed and be consolidated to a National Geospatial Operations Center in Denver.

Ryan Ludwick belted a three-run home run and drove in a career-high five runs as St. Louis roared back to down Oakland, 10-6, in the finale of a three-game interleague set at McAfee Coliseum. Ludwick finished 3-for-5 for the Cardinals, who won two of three in a series that saw the winner of each contest score 10 or more runs. Scott Spiezio was 2-for-5 with a solo home run for St. Louis. Anthony Reyes, who won the first game of the 2006 World Series for the Cardinals as a rookie, returned to the hill after a brief stint in the minors. The right-hander was summoned to take the spot of Brad Thompson but was ineffective early. Reyes allowed five runs -- all in the first inning -- on seven hits in five innings of work en route to the no-decision. Russ Springer (3-0) earned the win after hurling a perfect sixth inning. The Cardinals won for the first time in the 10 Reyes starts this season.

Esteban German plated the go-ahead run with a double in the sixth and the bullpen took care of the rest, as the Kansas City Royals edged the Florida Marlins, 5-4, in the rubber match of a three- game interleague series at Kauffman Stadium. Brian Bannister (4-3) picked up the win after tossing six-plus innings of four-run, nine-hit ball. The bullpen was the story, though, with Zack Greinke pitching two perfect frames before Octavio Dotel closed it out in the ninth. Alex Gordon went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who have won five of their last seven. The Cards and Royals play tonight at 7:00 and you can hear it on KSMO.
