An accident occurred at 4:10 Saturday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 19 about eight miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 65-year old Thomas Jones of Salem was driving a 2011 Dodge pickup southbound when it ran off the right side of the road. Jones then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to skid off the right side of the road again and overturn. Jones was partially ejected and suffered serious injuries. He was flown to St. Johns in St. Louis. The Dodge sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred on Friday at 1:40 in the afternoon in Phelps County on Highway 68 at County Road 1050 about one fourth mile North of St. James. According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred as a 1987 Freightliner Dump truck driven by 58-year old Mikey Gresham of Rolla attempted to pass as a John Deer Farm Tractor driven by 21-year old Morgan Adams of St. James made a left turn into the path of the tractor and was struck. Adams suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the St. James ambulance. The dump truck sustained extensive damage, while the tractor was totaled. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by C & C Towing.

An accident occurred on Thursday, May 30^th at 3:30 in the afternoon on Third and Park. According to the Salem Police report, a 2013 Kent Troublemak ER 20 driven by Cheyenne Swank of Salem, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and collided with a 2009 Toyota Tundra driven by Barbara Wicham of Salem. Both vehicles sustained minor damages. Swank suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by a private vehicle.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Ken Tarvin would like to address the Board on the recent decision to initiate “No Parking” on West Franklin from Park Street to Missouri Avenue. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will report on various issues concerning the city and City of Salem Mayor, Gary Brown will then give his report. In new and miscellaneous business, City Clerk Mary Happel will present the trailer court licenses for the approval, Lucas will present an HSA(Health Savings Account) option, if the Board approves, to help the employees on the $2,000 deductible for the same cost to the city as the original plan the Board approved. There will also be a discussion of setting a trailer court inspection policy until a further study of ordinances. The Board will then vote to go into closed session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History at 601 North Hickory will present “Mother Goose’s Flora and Fauna” on Tuesday, June 18^th starting at 6:30 pm. Mother Goose will be returning this year with a series of programs with fun, songs, and activities about various aspects of the natural world, including all of the wonderful plants and animals that make up our environment. There will be a few stories, a couple of songs, snacks, and maybe a short walk close to the house, depending on the weather. This program is especially designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and up to early elementary school-aged children. The cost is $1.00 per person or $5.00 for the whole family. A cultural exhibit featuring the Current River and it’s history will be at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center at 202 South Main Streetstarting today and lasting through the 31^st of July. The exhibit is called, “Current River: The Beautiful River, It’s Strong people and It’s Unique Culture.” The exhibit is sponsored by the LAD Foundation, Bank of Salem, Community Foundation of the Ozarks and the Salem Area Arts Council. The exhibit will feature a number of old photographs and artifacts of the logging, mining, farming and tourism industries as well as how the people lived and worked along the river. The Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County will conduct their June meeting on Tuesday, June 18^th at the Dent County Community Center beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting and disbursements, the Board will address a financial report, water-testing report, President’s report as well as a bookkeeping report. The Board will then have a general discussion and address any new business and may vote to go into closed session. The June meeting of the Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County is open to the public.

Route J in Reynolds County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews seal the roadway with a mixture of rock and oil. This section of roadway is located from Route TT to Route 21. Weather permitting work will take place Monday, June 17^th and Tuesday, June 18^th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. The South Central Missouri 2013 Cattlemen’s Tour will be held July 15^th through the 18^th sponsored by the Dent County and Maries County Extensions. This year, the tour will go to Portageville to the Missouri University Delta Center which is an MU Ag Experiment station. From there, the tour will go the Four L Herefords in Atwood, Tennessee, then to the Triple L Ranch in Franklin, Tennessee before the tour makes a stop at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville where participants will take in a show. The 5^th stop on the tour will be a two hour “do it yourself” tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville before moving on the Robert Elliott and Sons Angus Farm in Adams, Tennessee. The 7^th stop on the tour will be to King Livestock in Hopkinsville, Kentucky while the final stop will be at the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Agricultural Center in Simpson, Illinois. The cost of the tour is $900 per couple or $550 for a single person and that will include all transportation, lodging and noon meals, plus any other tickets or fees associated with the stop. There must be a minimum of 30 paid participants for the tour to be held. Ricky Nolasco dazzled St. Louis hitters over seven strong innings as the Miami Marlins cruised past the Cardinals, 7-2, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Marlins Park. Tyler Lyons (2-3) was pegged with the loss after giving up six runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings. Jon Jay and Matt Adams drove in one run apiece for the Cardinals, who dropped just their third series of the season. The Cardinals will host the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series starting tonight, and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio at 5:30.

Jeff Francoeur hit a solo home run and Alex Gordon had a pair of RBI as the Kansas City Royals downed the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-3, in the finale of a four-game set at Tropicana Field. Alcides Escobar had three hits, an RBI and a run scored and Billy Butler added two hits and an RBI for the Royals, winners in 10 of their last 12 games. Wade Davis (4-5) gave up two runs on five hits over six frames to earn the win and Greg Holland picked up his 14th save of the season. The Royals start a three-games series with the Cleveland Indians tonight at 6:05.

Funeral services for Louise Sutton, age 84, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Christian Church.

Funeral services for Sylvester G. Martin of Salem, age 91, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Victor Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Maxine Helen Jones of Salem, age 92 will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.  

Funeral services for Jean Bass Dean of Arizona, formerly of Salem, will be Saturday, June 22nd at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
