An accident occurred at 9:15 Friday night in Dent County on Route 68 about four miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Dodge Ram driven by 24 year-old Brandon Kulp of Salem ran off the right side of the roadway. Kulp then overcorrected, causing the truck to travel off the left side of the roadway, where it struck a culvert and overturned several times before coming to rest after striking a utility pole. Kulp suffered moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Ram sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker Towing of Salem.

The Salem Police Department released their report involving a dog bite, burglary, unauthorized dumping, theft, and a disturbance. On Tuesday June 9 at approximately 1:29 p.m. an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a dog bite. Investigation of the report revealed a 15-20 pound dog bit a City of Salem employee. The owner of the dog was located and the report is under investigation. Later that afternoon at approximately 2:59 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East First in reference to a burglary in progress. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 25 year-old male of Rolla for property damage and trespassing. He was also arrested on a fugitive warrant from Livingston County MO. He was issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that day at approximately 4:05 p.m. an officer was detailed to Stephens Steakhouse in reference to unauthorized dumping. Investigation of the report revealed person or persons unknown dumped a large amount of garbage in the dumpster without authorization. On Wednesday June 10 at approximately 11:24 a.m. an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to the theft of a purse from a shopping cart. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 23 year-old female of Salem for felony stealing. Later that night at approximately 7:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to Al Brown Complex in reference to a disturbance. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 32 year-old female of Salem for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board will hear from the South Central Community Action Agency about closing West 2nd Street between North Jackson and North Washington from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on July 16^th for the annual Back-To-School Fair. They will also hear from Tim Wofford about a stormwater problem on his property at #2 South Jackson. The board will discuss bids for mowing at 301 East 10^th Street and 1201 South Louise Street, and then hear bids for utility poles. After the consent agenda, the board will hear from Aldermen Jim McDaniels, Brad Nash, Jim Jackson and Kenneth Nash before Mayor Gary Brown gives his comments. The mayor will also talk about donating 30 minutes the city has contracted with the MRPC to CASA so that they could ask for grant assistance in their attempt to re-open their office in Dent County. The board will then read bill #3167 that would authorize the mayor to execute an agreement with the Dent County Fall Festival Association for the leasing of the Commons for the annual Independence Day activities. After the bills are approved, the meeting will be adjourned.

The Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County board will conduct their monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 16^th at the Salem Community Center located at 606 North McGrath Lane in Salem beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, the minutes from last months meeting, disbursements and financial reports, there will be water testing report, a President’s report and an Administrative report. There will then be a general discussion and any new business will be addressed that comes before the board. The meeting of the Public Water Supply District #1 of Dent County board is open to the public.

Graveside services for James “Jim” Carl Thomas of Salem, formerly of Westland, Michigan, age 55, will be held Monday, June 15^th at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Graveside visitation will be held from 10:00 until service time. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.

Graveside services for Dorothy W. Norris of Rolla, age 76, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Berry Cemetery in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for John A. James of Vienna, age 41, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Vienna United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the church. Interment will be in the James Community Cemetery in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the Vienna United Methodist Church or the James Community Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.

Funeral services for Larnce (Larry) R. Bailey of Salem, age 51, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary.  Visitation will be Wednesday morning from 12:00 until service time. Interment will be in the House of Prayer Cemetery in Salem.  

A Memorial Service for William J. Higginbotham of Rolla, age 72, will be held Saturday, June 20^th at 7:00 at the Central Community Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Central Community Church of God or the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
