The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5600 (know as the Turtle Loop) and 6380, while brush is going to be cut on county roads 6380 and 6500. Purcell indicated that three men would be hauling gravel from the creek and that a driveway culvert was going to be installed on Dent County Road 5015. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2130 and 4330, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2140. He said that one man from his district would also be hauling gravel from the creek. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles presided over a PHA Hearing on Thursday, then attended a Transportation Advisory Committee meeting, an External Relations Committee meeting and the MRPC Board meeting at the Meramec Regional Planning Commission in St. James. Skiles also said that the cost for the new headsets for the radios for dispatchers would run an additional $1,132 over the estimated $1,600 to 1,700 that was initially asked for by Sheriff Rick Stallings. The money would come from the 9-1-1 fund. The Commissioners approved the request for the additional funds for a total cost of about $2,800. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the Board of Equalization will be meeting at 9:00 on July 2^nd at the courthouse that will include citizen members Jamie Homeyer and Babette Wells. Deputy Wayne Becker brought in the paperwork for the state distribution to the Deputy Sheriff’s Supplemental Funds for the Dent County Deputies of $15,809.88. He said that amount is the same as it was last year. At the last meeting, Karen Stephens came in to ask some questions about the property that was purchased for the new Animal Shelter. Her property is next to that property and she was wondering where the sewage is going to go and she also was curious about a property owner who still has a lagoon. The commission said they have no authority over the animal shelter or lagoons, and that the she should be in contact with the Department of Health or the Department of Natural Resources. Also at the last meeting, Dent County Surveyor Craig Ruble came in and informed the commission that the corners are now set at the cemetery that Mr. Stagner had inquired about. The surveyor and commissioners went to the location to look at the corners that were established. The cemetery is inside the city limits but was deeded to the county. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Current River Cruisers Car Show will be held this Saturday around the courthouse square in downtown. Registration begins at 8:00 in the morning with judging beginning at noon. There will be music, games, food, fun and a fantastic collection of cars. Proceeds go the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and Project Win Cancer Support. Route J in Reynolds County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews seal the roadway with a mixture of rock and oil. This section of roadway is located from Route TT to Route 21. Weather permitting work will take place Monday, June 17^th and Tuesday, June 18^th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. The South Central Missouri 2013 Cattlemen’s Tour will be held July 15^th through the 18^th sponsored by the Dent County and Maries County Extensions. This year, the tour will go to Portageville to the Missouri University Delta Center which is an MU Ag Experiment station. From there, the tour will go the Four L Herefords in Atwood, Tennessee, then to the Triple L Ranch in Franklin, Tennessee before the tour makes a stop at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville where participants will take in a show. The 5^th stop on the tour will be a two hour “do it yourself” tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville before moving on the Robert Elliott and Sons Angus Farm in Adams, Tennessee. The 7^th stop on the tour will be to King Livestock in Hopkinsville, Kentucky while the final stop will be at the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Agricultural Center in Simpson, Illinois. The cost of the tour is $900 per couple or $550 for a single person and that will include all transportation, lodging and noon meals, plus any other tickets or fees associated with the stop. There must be a minimum of 30 paid participants for the tour to be held. The Missouri Pesticide Collection Program, a free event for farmers and households, will be held on Saturday, June 15^th at the City of Salem Sewer and Water Construction Yard located at 3^rd and Grand Streets in Salem from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This collection is for outdated or unwanted fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, fertilizers containing herbicides or pesticides, rodenticides, dewormers, or fly tags. Allen Craig knocked in the eventual deciding run in the eighth inning and Adam Wainwright tossed seven scoreless innings to become the first 10-game winner in the majors, as St. Louis emerged with a 2-1 win over the New York Mets in the rubber match of a three-game series. Matt Carpenter's RBI triple accounted for the other run and Wainwright (10-3) allowed just four hits and two walks while fanning six to record his fifth straight victory. The Cardinals will be in Miami tonight to start a three-game series with the Marlins. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 5:35.

Elliot Johnson capped a three-hit performance and an eight-run sixth inning with a three-run homer and the Kansas City Royals ran away with a 10-1 victory in the opener of a four-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays. Alex Gordon, Salvador Perez and Miguel Tejada each added an RBI apiece to the rally, while David Lough collected a pair of hits and knocked in two runs to lift the Royals to their eighth victory in nine games. Ervin Santana (5-5) dominated over 7 2/3 innings of work, scattering just five hits and only giving up an unearned run in the triumph. The Royals and Ray play again tonight.

St. Louis Blues forward Andy McDonald has announced that he is retiring. McDonald, who suffered from a number of concussions over the last few years, had seven goals and 14 assists last year, his 6^th with the Blues. McDonald played his first six years with Anaheim, where back in the 2004-05 season he scored 34 goals.

Memorial visitation for Dawn Michele Cardillo of Steelville, age 47, will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 Saturday at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Louise Sutton, age 84, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Salem Christian Church.

Funeral services for Sylvester G. Martin of Salem, age 91, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Victor Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Maxine Helen Jones of Salem, age 92 will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
