The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2460, 2470 and 6400, a culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 5610, and rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 5620. Purcell also said that brush would be cut on various roads throughout the district and a truck would be traveling to Springfield to pick up a load of oil for the durapatcher, as chip and seal patching would start this week. Purcell also reported on the RC & D Meeting he attended in Houston last week where the main topics of discussion were grants to improve our region, cemetery records, and grants for low water crossings. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 5260, a culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 2330, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2530. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he along with other elected county officials and members of the Board of Equalization attended training in Springfield on Thursday. Skiles also attended the Council for a Healthy Dent County Board meeting last week and the board discussed the future of TCRC once it is no longer associated directly with the University of Missouri, which will occur in November.  Currently the University of Missouri is the managing partner of Salem TCRC. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the Board of Equalization will meet on Monday, July 18^th at 2:00 and anyone wanting an appointment to meet with the board needs to call 729-4144 by July 11^th. Wanda Jaudes stopped by the meeting to talk about Dent County Road 3030 with Commissioner Larson. She stated that she would like to see a culvert installed in a low place where water always runs over the road and Commissioner Larson said he would take a look at it this week with the district’s new supervisor. Prosecuting Attorney Sid Pearson came by to inform the Commission of an $8,060 special prosecutor fee reimbursement from the state. This amount stems from a recent case and the judge signed off on the special prosecutor, therefore the state will reimburse for the full amount. Pearson will also be getting an estimate for a service window to be installed in the Prosecuting Attorney’s office and will then present that estimate to the Commission. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Wednesday, June 8^th at 1:50 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to forgery. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown forged the name of another on three separate stolen checks totaling $71.85. Later that afternoon at 2:41, an officer was detailed to Pizza Hut parking lot in reference to a disturbance. The investigation of the report revealed that a 23-year old female of Bunker had assaulted a 65-year old female of Salem. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later on that evening at 6:40, an officer was dispatched to the 1400 block of South Jackson Street in reference to the theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a television valued at $50 from a vehicle. On Thursday, June 9^th at 1:15 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South Carty Street in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence and took an Emerson television valued at $400 and a Sony DVD player valued at $200. Later that afternoon at 1:15, an officer was detailed to Auto Connection in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a 1996 Chevrolet Blazer and took items valued at $115. Even later that afternoon at 4:22, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the detention of a 16-year old male juvenile for stealing and resisting arrest. The report will be forwarded to the juvenile office for further review. Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be performing chip-seal resurfacing on Route VV, from Route 119 to Route 137 in Texas County. Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be working between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  MoDOT performs chip-seal resurfacing on roads that are in generally fair to better condition.  The benefits include crack sealing, increased skid resistance and correction of minor rutting, which extends the life of the pavement in a cost effective way. While working, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to manage traffic. When motorists travel a newly chip-sealed road marked by "Fresh Oil" and "Loose Gravel" signs, they should keep their speed down and allow plenty of distance between vehicles to prevent small rocks from coming loose and hitting oncoming traffic. The City of Salem Finance Committee will hold a meeting, called by Director of Public Works & Engineering Bill Huffman, today at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 2:00 pm. The meeting will be held for the consideration of the 2011/2012 budget. The meeting of the City of Salem Finance Committee is open to the public.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off Monday and they will be in Washington DC to face the Nationals starting at 5:30 this afternoon. The Cards and Milwaukee are tied for the lead in the National League Central Division. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals also had the day of Monday and they will start a three game series in Oakland tonight.

The St. Louis Blues re-signed defenseman Nikita Nikitin to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Thursday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nikitin appeared in 31 games for the Blues and had a goal and eight assists.

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed forward Chris Porter to a one-year contract extension. Porter appeared in 45 games for the Blues during the 2010-11 season and notched three goals with four assists. He added 20 points in 36 games for the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria.

Jack Clark Day at the Ballpark has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 26^th at the Salem City Park. Registration is FREE for boys who are 8–15 years old. Forms are available at the Bank of Salem and at James and Gahr Mortuary. Boys age 8-12 will be able to participate in a clinic from 2:00 to 3:30 pm and boys age 13-15 the clinic will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.
