Braden Looper went the distance for the first time in his career, tossing a three-hit shutout as the Cardinals pounded the Cincinnati Reds, 10-0, in the middle installment of a three-game series. Rick Ankiel belted a three-run homer and Jason LaRue added a two-run shot - both in the first inning off Johnny Cueto, as the Cardinals captured their fourth consecutive victory. Ryan Ludwick added a solo homer and two RBI in the victory. Looper (8-5), who had four strikeouts without walking a batter, allowed a double to Ken Griffey Jr. in the fourth inning, and back-to-back singles to Jay Bruce and Paul Janish in the sixth. The Cardinals and Reds wrap up their series tonight at 5:50 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday with a strained left calf, and will be out of action for at least three weeks. Pujols was injured initially on June 3rd and re-aggravated the injury Tuesday night in Cincinnati. The 28-year-old had an MRI in St. Louis on Wednesday, which indicated the strain was between Grade 1 and Grade 2. With a Grade 1 strain, the muscle is stretched and causes only minor tears in the muscle fiber, whereas a Grade 2 strain causes partial tearing of the fibers. Pujols leads St. Louis with a .347 batting average and 16 home runs, and has driven in 42 runs, posted a .475 on-base percentage and .631 slugging percentage in 65 games this season. To fill Pujols' roster spot the Cardinals recalled first baseman/outfielder Chris Duncan from Triple-A Memphis. Duncan started at first base Wednesday and went 1-for-4 with a walk.

David Murphy homered twice, including his first career grand slam, as Texas rallied past Kansas City, 11-5, in the second of three at Kauffman Stadium. Ian Kinsler collected three hits and two RBI and Marlon Byrd added three hits and scored three times for the Rangers, who have won three in a row and four of six. Mark Grudzielanek hit a two-run homer and drove in four for the Royals, who have dropped four of five. Jose Guillen notched three hits, and Mike Aviles hit safely twice and scored a pair of runs. Jimmy Gobble (0-2) took the loss for Kansas City, charged with three hits, four runs and a walk without retiring a batter. Kyle Davies was outstanding in his start, giving up a run on six hits over six frames. The Royals and Rangers play again this afternoon.
