The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Commissioner Larson was not in attendance at the meeting due to a prior commitment. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported the sales tax figures for June have been received and this year $73,332.86 was received for General Revenue with a similar amount collected from the Law Enforcement Sales Tax. That amount is $8,340.08 more than the May receipts, but was done from last years June figure of $80,851.84. For the year, the sales taxes for General Revenue have increased $28,438.53 which is more than a 7.5% increase for the year while the Law Enforcement Sales Taxes are up $28,431.07, also more than 7.5%. She also said that she would be making the quarterly transfer of $18,625 from the Senior Citizen Fund to holding to be dispersed to SMTS, Salem Nutrition Site and the Agency on Aging. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5615 and 6670, while materials would be added and grading done on county road 5550. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave the road report for District 2, submitted by Sam Gorman, that stated materials would be added and grading would be done to Dent County Road 2340, and a pipe would be installed on county road 2380. He also said service work would be done on tractor #6 and shims would be added to grader #31. Skiles said he would be attending the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting in St. James. He also reported that preliminary numbers calculated from the proposed transportation sales tax referendum would provide Dent County about $156,000 per year to the road and bridge department. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said the last day to register to vote for the August Primary would be July 9^th. One bid was received for the meal bids for the Dent County Sheriff’s Department and it came from the Main Street Café for $5.39 a meal that includes an entrée, two sides, bread and a drink. The sheriff will be reviewing the bid before the commission will make a decision. At the last meeting, Assessor Tina Whitaker said the Board of Equalization meeting for 2014 would be held on July 21^st starting at 1:00. Appointments need to be made by calling the County Clerk’s office at 729-4144 by July 10^th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a special meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 1:00 today. The special meeting will be to address the employee health insurance and the special meeting is open to the public.

An artistic exhibit of the Impressions of the Civil War in the West is now on display at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center (ONCRC) in Salem at 202 South Main Street in Salem. This exhibit will contain more than 50 large paintings completed by Mr. Woodward based on his knowledge of relationships and happenings during the Civil War. The work shows the many faces of the war, from young orphans to soldiers charging and retreating, grieving mothers and wives to joyous celebrations are on display. While this exhibit has traveled to various locations around the Midwest, it will be shown in Salem in its entirety and will include some never before exhibited pieces. The display will be available to the public from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday through June 20^th.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released their reports for Friday, May 30^th. A traffic stop was conducted at the intersection of Highway 32 and Elmer Street. The driver of the vehicle was known to not have a valid driver's license. During contact with operator of the vehicle, consent to search the vehicle was requested and granted. As a result, items of drug paraphernalia and prescription pills were located and 42-year old Herman Helms of Salem was arrested. Helms is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a $20,000 cash only bond. That same day, deputies made contact with a suspicious male subject reported on County Road 4122. He initially gave a false name to deputies but after a short field interview, he was identified as Gregory Brooks. Brooks had an outstanding warrant for absconding and he was taken into custody. It was later learned that the vehicle that Brooks had driven to the residence had been stolen from Rolla earlier the same day. The vehicle was removed and subsequently returned to its rightful owner. Brooks was also wanted on charges of stealing a vehicle in Dent County. Brooks is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a Parole Absconder warrant. Also on Friday, May 30^th, deputies were dispatched to the lobby of the Dent County Sheriff’s Office for a report of a stealing. Upon arrival, a 61-year old Salem female reported that 4 iron wagon wheels, valued at $100, were taken from her residence without her permission. Also on that day, a male subject came into the Dent County Sheriff's Office and reported a .22 Caliber revolver missing. He stated that the firearm was taken from his residence while he was gone on vacation and it is valued at $200. A Summer Volleyball Camp will be held from June 23^rd through June 27^th this year at the SHS Gym. Camp times will be from 8:30 in the morning until 10:00 for girls in the 3^rd through 5^th grade, and from 12:30 to 2:00 for girls in the 6^th through 8^th grade. This camp is open to any girl entering these grades from Salem R-80, Oak Hill R-1, Green Forest R-2, Dent Phelps R-3, or Northwood R-4. The cost of the camp is $30 per girl. The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will be in Tampa Bay tonight to start a two-game series with the Rays at Tropicana Field. The Cardinals are 33-31 on the year and are five games back of the Brewers for the lead in the NL Central. You can hear tonight’s game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 5:35.

Monday's game between the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium has been postponed due to rain. A makeup date for the contest, which was to conclude a wraparound four-game series, has yet to be determined. The Royals will host the Cleveland Indians for two games starting tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

Funeral services for Shirley D. Huitt of Salem, age 52, will be held Wednesday at 12:00 at the Salem Christian Church. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem. Memorials can be made to the R-4 Shirley Huitt Memorial Fund.

Memorial and Military services for John Donald Boor of Salem, age 80, will be held at 2:00 Saturday afternoon at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Memorials may be made to the Firefighter Foundation.
