The Salem Police Department released their reports involving counterfeit money, theft, property damage and a traffic violation. On Monday, June 1st at 8:18 p.m. an officer was detailed to Phil-Mart Convenience Store on Highway 19 South in reference to counterfeit money. The report revealed that someone paid in counterfeit money that they had received from yard sale proceeds. On Tuesday, June 2nd at 6:30 in the morning, an officer was sent to a residence on Forest Hill Drive in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Craftsman 6.75 hp power washer valued at $200 from the yard of a residence. The hose that the washer was connected to had been cut. At 7:43 that same morning, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of East Third in reference to damage to a vehicle. The report revealed the driver side door glass was shattered on a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. The value of the damage is approximately $200.00. At 3:39 that afternoon, an officer was sent to a residence in the 500 block of South Macarthur in reference to a theft.  The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Craftsman 3600 psi power washer valued at $600 from the porch of a residence. The hose that the washer was connected to had been cut. On Thursday, June 4th at 5:10 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from the yard of a residence in the 600 block of North Grand. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a birdhouse valued at $50. On Friday, June 5th at 1:12 a.m. a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 51-year old male from Effingham, Illinois for driving while intoxicated.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the counterfeit money, thefts or the property damage report, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 5:53 Saturday evening in Dent County of Route CC about seven miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Chevrolet pickup driven by 17 year-old Tiarisa Richmond of Salem failed to negotiate a curve, ran off the right side of the roadway, and overturned. Richmond and a passenger in the vehicle, one year-old Eli Scott of Lenox, suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Both were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet pickup sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened at 6:15 Friday morning in Texas County on Ware Road about two miles west of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Chevrolet truck driven by 18-year old Dalton Backues of Licking was traveling eastbound on Ware Road. The Chevrolet truck ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. Backues and a passenger, 29-year old Dawn Lord of Licking, both suffered minor injuries. Backues refused treatment and Lord was taken by ambulance to the Texas County Memorial Hospital. It is unknown if anyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet truck sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by A1 Towing.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be patching on Highway 32 in Iron County from Highway 21 to Route KK beginning today. Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (MoDOT) will also be patching on Highway 68 in Phelps County from County Road 3450 to County Road 4400; and on Highway 32 in Texas County from Route N to Highway 17 beginning today.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Patching restores rideablility of the roadway surface. While performing this function, crews and equipment are located directly on the roadway. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving past the work zone. Paul Phillips went 4-for-5 with a homer and three runs batted in, while Ubaldo Jimenez was strong in eight innings of work to pace the Rockies over the Cardinals, 7-2, in the third test of a four-game set at Busch Stadium. Joel Pineiro (5-6) lasted five-plus frames, allowing three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts to take the loss. Albert Pujols knocked in the only two runs for St. Louis, which has lost four of its last five games. Colby Rasmus doubled twice and scored a run for the Cardinals, who had just five hits compared to 15 for the Rockies. The Rockies have won four straight games scoring 38 runs in that span. The Cards and Rockies play an afternoon game today starting at 12:55 on KSMO Radio.

Roy Halladay was masterful en route to tossing his 12th career shutout, becoming the first 10-game winner this season as the Blue Jays took the rubber match of a three-game set with Kansas City, 4-0. Halladay (10-1) lowered his earned-run average to 2.52, scattering seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts. The Toronto ace, who has not lost since April 21, tossed a mere 97 pitches in yet another near flawless outing. Kyle Davies (2-6), winless in his last seven starts, lasted eight innings, allowing four runs on nine hits for the Royals, who are 1-9 in their last 10 games. Mike Jacobs had two of KC's seven hits. The Royals have the day off before traveling to Cleveland on Tuesday.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed pitcher Kyle Lohse on the 15-day disabled list on Friday with a flexor strain in his right forearm and optioned pitcher Jess Todd to Triple-A Memphis. The Cardinals recalled infielder Tyler Greene and pitcher Blake Hawksworth from Memphis to fill the roster spots.

The Kansas City Royals recalled pitcher Luke Hochevar to start Saturday against the Blue Jays. To make room for Hochevar on the roster, the team designated pitcher Horacio Ramirez for assignment.

Funeral services for Lillie May Parks Reed formerly of Salem, age 82, will be held today at 1:00 at Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Pat Walker of Licking, age 59, will be held today at 2:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking.  Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery.

Funeral services for Sophia Mae Fore of Lecoma, age 86, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery in Dent County.

Funeral services for Mary Ellen "Molly" Ragan of Vienna, age 80, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the United Methodist Church in Vienna. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the James Community Cemetery in Vienna. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Vienna or the James Community Cemetery.

Graveside services for J. Richene Emory Laubach of Willow Springs, age 74, will be held Saturday at 4:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery.

A Memorial Service for William J. Higginbotham of Rolla, age 72, will be held Saturday, June 20th at 7:00 at the Central Community Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Central Community Church of God or the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for John Parker of St. James, age 81, are incomplete and are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

A memorial service for Daniel L. Ivicsics of Salem, age 65, will be held at a later date and arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Edna J. Streensland of Rolla, formerly of Rapid City, South Dakota, age 97, are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Phelps Regional Hospice.
