The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of May. During the month, they wrote three equipment repair orders, 12 summons to appear in court, 24 warning tickets, and 41 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 11 accidents, three reports of assault, six burglaries, one report of counterfeiting, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, nine reports of domestic violence, four reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of driving while revoked, one report of forgery, two reports of leaving the scene of an accident and one report of a lost/stolen license plate. The department also investigated six reports of property damage, one report of resisting/ interfering with arrest, one report of stalking, 20 reports of stealing, one report of trespassing, one report of unlawful use of a weapon ad three 96-hour commitments. They also investigated two reports of distributing/delivering/ manufacturing/producing/possession of a controlled substance, three reports of possession of amphetamine, one report of possession of barbiturate, three reports of possession of marijuana, seven reports of possession of opium or derivative, three reports of possession of drug paraphernalia, one report of possession of synthetic drugs and one report of selling drug amphetamine. The police department received 2,170 calls for service during the month, handled 150 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 80 calls to the animal control officer. They spent four hours in court testifying, four hours as court bailiff and spent 14 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in May included 26 calls for escorts, three calls for an intoxicated driver, four calls for a prowler, one call for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, three intoxicated pedestrian calls, 19 calls for domestic disputes, and four calls for a wrecker. There were 15 911 calls, 10 calls for a peace disturbance, 10 calls for alarms sounding, four calls for fights in progress, 17 ambulance assist calls, one fire call, and one call for property damage. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,402 miles and arrested 20 males and 7 females during the month of May.
An accident occurred at 5:05 Wednesday evening in Crawford County on highway 19 about three miles north of Cuba. According to the highway patrol report, 24-year old Jarred Bloomner of Cuba was driving a 1998 Chevrolet van when it traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a driveway culvert, and overturned. Bloomner suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The van was totaled and was removed from the scene by Miles Towing of Cuba.
U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s staff will host a Listening Post Meeting this morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Dent County Courthouse. Listening Posts are intended for Missourians to share their questions and concerns during meetings with members of Senator Blunt's staff. Senator Blunt’s Jefferson City office also extends one-on-one service to all Missourians who have an issue with a federal agency or need additional assistance. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house on Saturday, June 8th, at Montauk State Park near Salem. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the open house will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in the Searcy Building meeting room next to the park office. Recent accomplishments at the park and future plans will be highlighted. Visitors will be invited to share comments on the park’s goals and objectives. The open house is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure the public has input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. Paul Goldschmidt gave Arizona some breathing room with a grand slam in the seventh inning, and the Diamondbacks downed the St. Louis Cardinals, 10-3, in the third installment of a four-game series at a rainy Busch Stadium. Joe Kelly (0-3) had to make a spot-start, and despite suffering the loss, the young right-hander delivered 5 2/3 solid innings, allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk. The Cardinals and Diamondbacks will play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40.
The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Maikel Cleto from Triple-A Memphis and optioned right-handed reliever Victor Marte. Cleto, 24, has been used as a starter at Memphis since May 2, going 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA in six games started (30.1 IP), limiting the opposition to a .181 batting average. He has posted an overall season mark of 2-2, 5.67 ERA in 13 games for Triple-A, striking out 39 batters in 39.2 innings pitched.
Jeremy Guthrie tossed six innings of one- run baseball and the Kansas City Royals stopped their franchise-worst 11-game home losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Guthrie (6-3), who had lost his previous three decisions, gave up six hits while striking out four and walking three for the Royals, who won at home for the first time since May 5th. The Royals and Twins play again tonight.

Funeral services for Betty Lou Sturdivant of Salem, age 66, will be today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
Funeral arrangements for Brenda Bell of Salem, age 63, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win, the Round Pond Cemetery, or the Second Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Edith Love of Steelville, age 96, will be held Friday evening at 7:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial services for Alta Geraldean “Dean” Hogan of Salem, age 80, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Research.
Memorial services for Carolyn Ann Steiner of Rolla, age 58, will be held at 1:00 on Saturday at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
Memorial services for George Garth Miller Sr. of Salem, age 90, will be held in his hometown of Clarion, Iowa at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel.
