The Dent Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 5110 and 6220, while materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 5130. Purcell said that materials would be added to Dent County Road 2480 and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6520. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave the report for District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson who was not in attendance due to a previous commitment. He said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2480 and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3220. Skiles went on to say that work crews were working on removing the old low water crossing and preparing the area for a new temporary crossing. Skiles gave his report and said that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Full Council meeting in St. James Tuesday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley stated that the last day to register for the August 7th Primary will be July 11th and people voting must declare a party when they vote. She stated that absentee voting will be begin on June 26th and if anyone has had an address change or name change since the last election to please contact her office at 729-4144. She also said that if anyone would like to be a poll worker to please call her office at 729-4144. At 10:00, bids were submitted for the Sinkin Creek project. Four bids were received and the companies submitting the bids were all bonded. Boone Construction from Columbia had a base bid of $289,405.65 with a first alternate bid of $15,205.38 less than the base bid, and a second alternate bid that came in $26,935.20 more than the base bid. Pace Construction from St. Louis had a base bid of $376,180.00 with a first alternate bid of $27,183.56 less than the base bid, and a second alternate bid of $17,156.40 more than the base bid. Joe’s Bridge and Grading Company from Poplar Bluff had a base bid of $297,331.50 with a first alternate bid of $12,088 less than the base bid, and a second alternate bid of $24,882.00 less than the base bid. The final bid came from Widel Company and their base bid was $295,094.96 with the first alternate bid at $285,941.51, and the second alternate bid of $309,319.46. No decision was made as Great Western Engineering took the bids for review. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Tuesday, May 15th at 2:10 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to damage to a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown caused $1,000 in damage to a black 2008 GMC truck that was parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. On Wednesday, May 16th at 11:00 at night, an officer transported a 20-year old Salem female to the Phelps County Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Thursday, May 17th at 2:54 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of North Pershing in reference to a disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem male had assaulted a 19-year old Salem female. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. Later that night at 7:24, an officer was dispatched to that Casey’s General Store Highway 32 in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that a male driving a red Ford Ranger pumped $29.99 in fuel and left without paying. On Friday, May 18th at 9:40 at night, an officer was dispatched to the 1400 block of South Gertrude in reference to a fight in progress. That investigation revealed that a 25-year old female and a 32-year old male, both of Salem, had assaulted a 23 year-old female and a 54 year-old female, both of Salem. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspects for peace disturbance, assault, resisting arrest, and assault on a law enforcement officer. They were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, May 19th at 6:03 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 51-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Anyone with any information regarding the damage to the vehicle or theft of fuel, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 5:20 Tuesday evening in Phelps County on Route T about a mile south of Newburg. According to the highway patrol report, a 1981 Ford Explorer driven by 39-year old Joyce Pingel of Harviell traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Pingel and an occupant, 46-year old Arthur Bare of Rolla, suffered serious injuries and were flown to the University Medical Center in Columbia. Neither were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing of Rolla.

Justin Maxwell hit a two-run home run to help the Houston Astros survive for a 9-8 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game set. Matt Adams hit a three-run home run, Rafael Furcal added a two-run shot and Adron Chambers hit a two-run triple for the Cardinals, who have dropped six of seven. Jaime Garcia (3-4) lasted just two innings as he was tagged for six runs on five hits with two walks. The Cards and Astros play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:30.

Bruce Chen tossed seven shutout innings to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 1-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins in the middle test of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Chen (5-5) allowed four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out five in the Royals' fifth win in seven games. Brayan Pena knocked in the game's lone run and Jonathan Broxton earned his 14th save of the year. The Royals and Twins play again tonight.

Funeral services for Cleda Lorene Lundy of Salem, age 87, will be this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Virginia R. Roedemeier of Rolla, age 87, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until time of service at the church. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Mildred Fanger of St. James, age 97, will be today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Meramec Hills Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial services for Louis A. Wisdom of Salem, age 77, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem. A full military service will also be held at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Nursery for children 2-3 years old. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
