An accident happened Friday afternoon in Crawford County at 2:30 on Highway 49 about a half mile north of Route V. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 Toyota SR-5 Pickup truck driven southbound by 24-year old Ronald Clary of Viburnum, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree and rotated clockwise. The truck then struck a second tree and caught fire before coming to rest. Clary was removed from the vehicle by passing motorists. Clary suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to the St. Johns Hospital in Creve Coeur. Clary was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The Toyota Pickup was totaled in the accident and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum.

An accident happened at 5:25 Saturday in Crawford County on Thurman Lake Road about five miles west of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Ford F-150 driven eastbound by 40-year old Sharon K. Webb of Cook Station, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Webb suffered minor injuries and taken by the North Crawford County ambulance to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. The Ford sustained minor damage and was removed from the scene by Miles and Sons towing.

An accident happened Sunday night at 9:35 in Dent County on Highway 72 about 11 miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 17-year old Brady Floyd of Salem was driving a 2004 Ford Ranger westbound when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Brady overcorrected causing the Ford Ranger to travel off the left side of the roadway where it went down an embankment and struck a tree. Floyd suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by the Salem Ambulance. Floyd was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Ranger sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers. The board will hear a request from Issa Labastida about allowing a band to play music on the Bigo’s parking lot from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on June 25^th. After the consent agenda, the board will get a report from the Community Services Committee meeting, hear a report from the Director of Public Works and Engineering, and hear a report from Mayor Gary Brown. In the reading of bills, Bill #3228 is concerned with the appointment and term of the City Treasurer, Bill #3229 is concerned with the appointment and term of the Director of Engineering, and Bills #3230, 3231 and 3232 deal with the appointments and terms of a police major, captain and lieutenant. The board will also discuss Resolution #9-2011 that authorizes the mayor to execute an agreement between the city of Salem and the Dent County Fall Festival Association for the leasing of The Commons for the annual 4^th of July activities. The board will also review a proposed new pay scale presented by Director of Public Works Bill Huffman before the bills are approved. The board may then vote to go into closed session. The city of Salem Board of Alderman meeting tonight is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released an arrest report for Friday, June 3^rd. At 1:06 in the afternoon, 32 year-old Michael J. Brass and 42 year-old Jina M. Telles, both of Salem, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. They were taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold.

All 4-H/FFA members with market animal projects that will be showing and selling at the Fair this year are encouraged to attend a Fair Pre-Show on Saturday, June 18^th at the Commons livestock barn beginning at 9:00 am.  First-time exhibitors must attend or pay an additional 1% commission fee. Steers should be brought to the pre-show to acquaint them with the arena and for 4-H’ers to practice leading them with the other steers. Instruction will be given on what the judges will be looking for and how best to show your animal. There will also be demonstrations of how to show hogs and lambs. Albert Pujols hit his second game-winning home run in as many days to lead St. Louis past Chicago, 3-2, and complete a three-game sweep. Pujols also homered in the 12th inning of Saturday's game to give the Cardinals a 5-4 victory in the second installment of the series. Ryan Theriot hit an RBI double in the ninth to extend the game, and Fernando Salas (3-0) was given the win when he pitched a scoreless 10th inning. Chris Carpenter allowed two runs on seven hits, two walks and six strikeouts through nine innings. The Cards will be off today.

Brian Duensing tossed eight shutout innings to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 6-0 victory and four- game sweep of the Kansas City Royals. The left-hander limited the Royals to six hits and a walk, while striking out four. Jeff Francis (2-6) gave up four runs -- only one earned -- in seven innings to take the loss, the Royals' seventh in their last nine games. Kansas City designated hitter Billy Butler had a game-high three hits. The Royals will host Toronto starting tonight.

The St. Louis Blues re-signed forward Patrik Berglund to a two-year contract last Tuesday. The 22-year old Berglund set career-highs last season with 81 games played, 22 goals and 30 assists. He finished third on the team in points and at the recent World Championships in Slovakia he finished second amongst all skaters with eight goals and 10 points, helping Team Sweden to a Silver Medal.

Jack Clark Day at the ballpark has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 26^th. Registration is free for boys are 8–15. Boys age 8-12 will be able to participate in a clinic from 2:00 to 3:30 pm and boys age 13-15 the clinic will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Be sure and sign up for Jack Clark Day at the ballpark and get some baseball tips from a former Cardinal legend. That’s Jack Clark Day at the ballpark rescheduled Sunday, June 26^th.
