The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2400, 2410, 2430 and 2450. Simpson also said that grading would be done, material would be hauled to Dent County Road 4210 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5220.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2070, 3020, 3080 and 3150 and also in the Boss area on Dent County Roads 4290 and 4370.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the deadline to turn in proposals for the rural addressing coordinator would be Monday at 10:00. Skiles also said that Susan Cunningham with Spatial Data Research would be here next week to look over the counties map revisions before the first notice of address changes are sent out. Cunningham will also be setting in with Commissioner Skiles during his radio program that will air on Friday, June 13th at 8:30 on KSMO and the phone lines will be open for anyone who has questions about the rural addressing process.  Bruce Powell came by the meeting to bring a petition to Commissioner Simpson requesting that the speed limit on Dent County Road 5015 be set at 35 mph. The Commission voted yes to set the speed limit at 35 mph and will post a speed limit signs as soon as possible. Betty Wisdom also came by the meeting to ask the Commission about this years chip and seal projects. Commissioner Simpson said that due to all the flooding no roads have been considered for chip and seal, because crews have been so busy repairing all the flood damage. The Commission then went in to closed session with Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks and at 10:00 closed on the property that the county purchased from Mark Weaver and Kelly Parker. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, juveniles, and disorderly conduct. On May 19th at 4:18 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the 500 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem male for assaulting at 36-year old Salem female. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At 7:37 that evening, an officer was sent to the William Lynch Elementary School in reference to a fight. The report led to the arrest of a 48-year old female and 14-year old juvenile, both of Salem, for assaulting a 15-year old juvenile Salem female. The 48-year old was issued a summons to appear in court and the juvenile will be referred to the juvenile officer. At 10:41 that same evening, an officer was detailed to the Agape Home at 5th Street and Henderson in Salem in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court upon his release. On May 23rd at 8:00 in the evening, an officer was sent to the Salem City Park in reference to a fight in progress. The report led to the arrest of a 17-year old female and a 16-year old juvenile female of Salem for disorderly conduct. The 17-year old was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The juvenile will be referred to the juvenile officer. On May 25th at 12:25 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the BP Convenience Store in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 26-year old St. Louis male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

Kids Fishing Derby will be conducted on Saturday, June 7th from 10:00 am to 12:00 (NOON) at the Indian Trail Fish Hatchery. The event, sponsored by the Salem Rotary, Missouri Department of Conservation, Salem Wal-Mart and the USDA Forest Service, is for kids 12-years and under. Take Highway 19 North to Highway 117 to the Indian Trail State Forest and follow the signs. Kids should bring a fishing pole, bait, a lawn chair and adult supervision. There will be food and prizes. Catch the reading bug this summer at the Salem Public Library and discover the amazing world of insects. The reading program is for young people from kindergarten to young adult. Todd Wellemeyer tossed six shutout innings, and Albert Pujols hit the first pinch-hit home run of his career as the St. Louis Cardinals topped the Washington Nationals, 4-1 in the opener of a day/night doubleheader at Nationals Park. Wellemeyer (7-1) scattered five hits and racked up five strikeouts while issuing just one walk to lead the Cardinals to their second straight win and their third in four games. Troy Glaus belted a two-run homer for St. Louis, and Joe Mather added an RBI double. Ryan Franklin picked up his seventh save with a perfect 9th inning. In the second game, Elijah Dukes hit his first homer as a member of the Nationals, a dramatic two-run shot in the bottom of the 10th inning, as Washington earned a 10-9 win over St. Louis in the back end of a doubleheader. The Cardinals tied the game in the ninth on an RBI triple from Skip Schumaker followed by a run-scoring single from Aaron Miles. They then went ahead in the 10th on Joe Mather's first major league homer, a shot to left off Brian Sanches (2-0). The Cards trailed 7-0 in the game before the offense rolled as the RedBirds got a two-run double from starting pitcher Mike Parisi and a three-run homer from reliever Mark Worrell. Troy Glaus hit a solo homer in the 4th inning.  Ryan Franklin (2-2) couldn't close out the 10th inning and took the loss as Cristian Guzman singled to center and Dukes followed with a blast over the wall in center. The Cardinals travel to Houston to face the Astros this weekend starting tonight at 6:50 on KSMO Radio.

Jim Thome hit a solo home run and scored twice, as the Chicago White Sox completed a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 6-2 victory. Mark Teahen hit a solo home run for Kansas City, which has dropped three in a row and 15 of its last 17 overall. Mark Grudzielanek had a double and David DeJesus slugged a triple in the losing effort. Gil Meche (3-8) absorbed the loss as he was touched for five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings on the hill. The Royals travel to New York to face the Yankees this weekend.

The Royals picked first baseman Eric Hosmer with the third overall selection in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft. The washington Nationals took University of Missouri right-hander Aaron Crow as their first pick (ninth overall) in Thursday's draft, while the Cardinals selected Arizona State third baseman Brett Wallace at No. 13.

Funeral services for Alta Bell Martin of Salem, age 91, will be held this morning at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Funeral services for Kathy Fern Shults of Salem, age 49, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Wilson Morturay Chapel in Salem. Visitatio will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Vadna J. Armer of Salem, age 89, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
