The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Friday, May 23
rd at 1:10 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft of a license plate. The investigation reveled that someone took a license plate off of a 2005 Cadillac Escalade on an unknown date and time. On Sunday, May 25
th at 11:23 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 900 block of East Third Street in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone took an antique wagon wheel, valued at $100, from the yard of a residence. Later that day at 8:22 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Spring Creek Cafe in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a CD stereo faceplate, valued at $100, from a vehicle. On Monday, May 26
th at 9:00 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen license plate. The investigation revealed that someone took a license plate off of a 2004 Cadillac SRX. Later that afternoon at 3:16, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $2.97. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, May 27
th at 12:16 in the afternoon, an officer located a 28-year old Salem male in the 100 block of East Fifth who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.
The public is invited to bring their ideas to an informational meeting at Montauk State Park on Saturday, June 7th. The open house style meeting will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Searcy meeting room located next to the park office. Park representatives will provide information on recent accomplishments and future plans for the facility and will be available to answer questions. Visitors are invited to share comments and suggestions about park services and operations. This open house is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure citizens have input regarding the facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. Montauk State Park is located 22 miles southwest of Salem on Highway 119 in Dent County. Individuals requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling the park at 573-548-2201.
Get hooked on fishing with the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Free Fishing Days Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th. During Free Fishing Days, anyone can fish in the Show-Me State without having to buy a fishing permit, trout stamp, or trout park daily tag. Normal regulations remain in effect, such as limits on size and number of fish an angler can keep. Some private fishing areas may still require permits, and trespass laws remain in effect on private property. Conservation makes Missouri a great place to fish, and Free Fishing Days encourages people to sample the state's abundant fishing opportunities. Missouri is blessed with more than a million acres of surface water, and most of it provides great fishing. According to MDC, more than 200 different fish species are found in Missouri, with 40 of them being game fish for the state’s more than 1.1 million anglers. Conservation also enriches Missouri’s economy and Missourians’ quality of life. Fishing in the state generates more than a billion dollars for local communities and the state’s economy, and supports thousands of jobs. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will hold a public auction of various used vehicles and equipment on Saturday, June 7th, starting at 10:00 a.m. at its Salem Maintenance Center located at the junction of Highway 72 and Highway 32 in Salem. The auction will feature nearly 200 items including dozens of boats, vehicles, and trailers, along with outboard motors, tractors, dozers, farm equipment, and more. Those interested can view auction items on Friday, June 6, at the Salem Maintenance Center from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pre-registration on June 6 is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Registration the day of the sale begins at 7:30 a.m. For a list of auction items and procedures, visit mdc.mo.gov/node/5585. Matt Carpenter collected five hits, including a tie-breaking RBI double in the top of the 11th inning, that helped the St. Louis Cardinals claim a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals rallied for a pair of runs in the ninth to spoil Adam Wainwright's shutout bid and tie the game at 2-2. Matt Carpenter finished 5-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Sam Freeman (1-0) secured the win after spinning a perfect 10th inning. Adam Wainwright allowed two runs on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over eight-plus innings. Alcides Escobar registered two of the five hits for the Royals, who saw starter Jason Vargas surrender two runs on nine hits and two walks over eight frames. These teams will play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 6:35.

Funeral services for Sarah I. Potter of O’Fallon, Illinois, formerly of Vichy, age 93, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Walker Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Southern Illinois.
Funeral services for Jessie Ernestine Hendricks of St. Louis, age 97, will be held Friday morning at 9:30 at the Lupton Chapel in University City. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Lupton Chapel. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the Union Avenue Christian Church of the PEO Chapter 0.
Funeral services for Mike Reed of Rolla, and formerly of Salem, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Education Fund for Wesley Reed.
Funeral services for Dirk Farrin Smith of Black, age 59, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Locust Grove United Baptist Church at Oates. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Masonic Services at 7:00. Interment will be in the Myers Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Locust Grove United Baptist Church.
A celebration of life for Dr. Kevin Brewer of Rolla, age 62, will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
There will no services for John Marzette of Licking, age 63. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
