The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On May 19th at 10:00 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took ramps from a gooseneck trailer valued at $300, and is still under investigation. On May 21st at 10:38 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the Ozark Information Center in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took an antique picture of George Washington valued at $150, and that theft is still under investigation. On May 23rd at 12:38 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person or persons unknown took an LG Cingular CU 500 cell phone valued at $200 from a locker at the Salem Jr. High School. Further investigation by the police led to the detention of a 13-year old and a 14-year old male juvenile. They were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. On May 25th at 9:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 700 block of North Hickory in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person or persons unknown took a Lawman riding lawn mower valued at $300, an antique table valued at $250 and a Mongoose mountain bike valued at $200, and is still under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house on Saturday, June 7th, at Montauk State Park near Salem. The open house is from 8:00 in the morning until 9:15 in the evening in the outdoor amphitheater, which is located in the park's campground. The meeting is open to the public. Recent accomplishments at the park, including trout stream habitat improvements, will be highlighted during the informal meeting. Visitors will be invited to share comments and ask questions on the park's goals, objectives and future plans. In event of rain, the meeting will be moved to the J. Ben Searcy Building across the road from the park's lodge. The open house is part of an ongoing effort by the department to ensure that citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. Montauk State Park is located 22 miles southwest of Salem on Highway 119 in Dent County. People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling the park directly at (573) 548-2201 or by calling the department's toll-free number at (800) 334-6946.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a forgery, a shoplifter and counterfeiting. On May 23rd at 11:00 in the morning, an officer was sent to the Salem License Bureau in reference to a forgery. Investigation of the report revealed that a 29-year female from Guatemala was trying to obtain a Missouri identification card by use of forged documents. Further investigation led to her arrest along with four males that were accompanying her and that had also tried to use forged documents at the Cuba License Bureau. All the suspects were transported to the Crawford County Jail, and Immigration Services was contacted who detained all the suspects. On May 23rd at 1:43 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 20-year old male for stealing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On May 26th at 12:19 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. The report revealed that person(s) unknown passed a counterfeit one hundred-dollar bill. The report is still under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding the counterfeit is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242. 

Free Fishing Days will be held Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th at the Montauk State Park near Salem. Daily trout fishing tags and fishing licenses will NOT be required for individuals fishing in the Montauk State Park on these dates only. Also a fly-casting and fishing clinic will also be held. Both fly-fishing and casting techniques will be demonstrated and participants will be given an opportunity to practice in an open field area. Trout Park fishing strategies and successful trout fishing tactics will also be discussed. The clinics will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm and Sunday at 10:00 am. Wednesday's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals was postponed due to persistent heavy rain and thunderstorms. The teams will make up the contest as part of a day-night doubleheader today to finish the three-game set. Wednesday's scheduled starters, St. Louis' Todd Wellemeyer (6-1) and Washington's John Lannan (4-5) will be on the hill for the 12:10 p.m. start. The night game, to be held at 6:05 p.m. will have Mike Parisi (0-2) taking the mound for the Cardinals and Tim Redding (6-3) pitching for the Nationals. You can hear both games on KSMO Radio, weather permitting.

Paul Konerko drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the 15th inning to boost the White Sox to a 6-4 win over Kansas City in the middle installment of a three-game series. David DeJesus got a two-run single in the top of the 9th inning to extend the game. Jimmy Gobble (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Miguel Olivo and Mark Teahen hit solo homers for the Royals, losers in 14 of their last 16 games. Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar, who had a no-hitter going until the fourth inning, was lifted after allowing five hits and four runs in 5 2/3 frames. The Royals and White Sox play again tonight.

Funeral services for John Katunar, III of Rolla, formerly of Detroit, Michigan, age 59, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Funeral services for Alta Bell Martin of Salem, age 91, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
