The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their regular meeting at the City Hall Council Chamber tonight at 7:00. After the call to order and roll call, during the hearing of persons, Stanford McNeal is requesting to discuss with the board Bill #3256 concerning rezoning at 307 North MacArthur Avenue from Residential R-3 to Commercial and his objections concerning the matter. City Administrator, Clayton Lucas will present bids for Employee Health Insurance. The City Attorney and City Administrator will then report on the Public Hearing that was held prior to the board meeting concerning a dangerous building on MacArthur Avenue. During the consent agenda, the board will go over minutes from the previous meeting and other past agendas. In the reports of city officials and board committees, the board will be updated on completed, present and future projects and department updates. The board will then hear from City Administrator, Clayton Lucas, Aldermen, Kenneth Nash, Jerry Randell, Haydn Powell, Philip Giacomelli and Mayor Gary Brown who will discuss items concerning the city and give reports. In the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, resolution # 11-2012 is in need of the Mayor to sign the agreement with the company that will be awarded the bid on the CDBG Stormwater Grant, Resolution # 12-2012 is needed for the Mayor to sign the joint agreement for the City of Salem Website and Bill #3256 is an ordinance required to rezone property on North MacArthur. In new and miscellaneous business, the board will decide if they want the approval of the Salem Police Department Handbook and the board will then vote to go into closed session to discuss litigation, Real Estate, personnel and contracts. The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, May 11th at 6:05 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of West Acuff in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 21-year old Salem male had assaulted a 23-year old Salem female. He was arrested for 1st degree domestic assault and felonious restraint and the incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, May 12th at 3:07 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a traffic crash at the intersection of Highway 32 and 19. That investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem female on an active warrant from St. Genevieve County. She was incarcerated pending extradition. On Sunday May 13th at 11:42 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $26. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That same day at 1:36 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem female on active warrants from Dent County and Rolla Police Department. She posted bond and was released with a court date. Later on that night at 10:20, an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of Iron Mountain Road in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct, interference with a police officer, and refusal to obey a lawful order of a police officer. She was incarcerated and will be issued summon to appear in court up on her release. On Monday, May 14th at 12:07 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of South Pershing in reference to an intoxicated male knocking on doors and trying to get in a residence. That investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem male for trespassing, open container, and disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. An accident occurred on Thursday, May 31st at 4:00 in the morning in Phelps County on Eastbound I-44 at mile marker 195. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Buick driven by 21 year-old Ryan Connor of Hillsdale, Michigan ran off the right side of the roadway striking an apartment building. Suffering serious injuries was the subject inside the apartment, 64 year-old Nancy Slater of St. James, who was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. Connor suffered moderate injuries and was also taken by the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Buick was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeons Towing.
The public is invited to bring their ideas to an open house on Saturday, June 9th at the Montauk State Park near Salem. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the open house will be held from 8 to 9 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater located in the park’s campground. In event of rain, the meeting will be moved to the J. Ben Searcy Building across the road from the park’s lodge. Recent accomplishments at the park and future plans will be highlighted during the informal meeting. Visitors will be invited to share comments on the park's goals and objectives. The open house is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. Montauk State Park is located 22 miles southwest of Salem on Highway 119 in Dent County. The Mark Twain National Forest will offer two days of free day use and two free nights of camping at seven campgrounds June 8-10, 2012. Free camping is being offered in unreserved campsites both Friday and Saturday nights, and free day use is being offered at unreserved sites Saturday and Sunday, June 9-10, 2012. The free weekend is being offered in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day and Missouri’s Free Fishing Days, which are celebrated on the Saturday and Sunday following the first Monday in June. The free use is available in these local campgrounds and associated recreation areas: Lane Spring in Phelps County; Loggers Lake in Shannon County; and Watercress on the Current River in Carter County. Missouri’s Free Fishing Days were established as a way to encourage people to try fishing so they can find out, or rediscover, the enjoyment associated with fishing.

Jon Niese went six scoreless innings as the Mets defeated the Cardinals, 6-1, on Sunday. Jake Westbrook (4-5) gave up five runs on nine hits in five-plus innings and Adron Chambers had an RBI single in the eighth for the Cardinals, losers of five straight and eight of 10. The Cards and Mets finish up their series this morning and you can hear it on KSMO at 11:35.
Vin Mazzaro pitched six scoreless innings, Eric Hosmer homered, and the Kansas City Royals blanked the Oakland Athletics, 2-0, in the rubber match of the three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Mazzaro (2-0) scattered four hits and walked three while striking out three in Kansas City's sixth win in eight games. Jonathan Broxton shut the door in the ninth to earn his 13th save of the year. The Royals start a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins tonight in Kansas City.

Funeral services for Virginia R. Roedemeier of Rolla, age 87, will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rolla.
