An accident happened in Dent County Saturday afternoon at 3:50 on Highway 72 about 12 miles east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Suzuki Grand Vitara driven by 62-year old Syble Woolf of Bunker, was traveling eastbound when the Suzuki went off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Woolf suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Woolf was wearing a seat restraint when the accident occurred as the Suzuki was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident happened at 9:35 Sunday morning in Dent County on Route E about nine miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Suzuki Motorcycle driven eastbound by 53-year old Michael Bell of Salem, struck a cow in the roadway. The motorcycle then skidded on its side and came to rest in the roadway. Bell suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. The motorcycle had only minor damage and was driven from the scene.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 PM. An introduction of electric, water and sewer employees will be held during roll call. During the hearing of persons, representatives will be present from Vaughn Pool & Spa concerning the problem with receiving the pool filter that was ordered the first of March and was to be installed the first of April. The Board will hear bids the City had requested to reconstruct Well #7 located in the Masters’ Industrial Park, bids for cutting, bailing and removing hay for the year 2007 and bids for the sale of 23 pieces of 6” X 10” used pipe. Alderman Bill Riley, Mike Whitley, Jim Jackson, and Jim McDaniels would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. McDaniels would also like an update on the mosquito problem, storm-water problems, the fireworks for the 4^th of July, a Community Yard Sale Report and discuss conserving fuel. After Mayor Gary Brown gives his comments, Bill #3099 will be introduced to amend Bill #3077, adopting the annual budget for the City of Salem beginning July 1, 2006 and adding a new fund known as “Economic Development Home Loan Fund” to the annual budget. City Attorney Mark Weaver will present a petition for annexation of property owned by Joyce Ann Nash, located at #6 Great Oaks Drive during new business. After the approval of the bills, the Board will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Roadwork continues this week in the KSMO listening area. In Crawford County, a contractor will install over 10 miles of centerline tape Tuesday through Friday, weather permitting, on I-44 in the westbound lanes from the Franklin/Crawford County line near Sullivan, to west of Route H near Leasburg. Motorists will use one lane through the work zone, and should expect short delays. MoDOT crews will perform a chip seal to seal out moisture and restore the roadway surface on Routes E and BB, crews will install pipe liner(s) to restore drainage on Routes PP and UU, and crews will paint turn arrows and stop blocks on various routes in Crawford County. In Phelps County, MoDOT crews will perform concrete replacement on the roadway on Highway 63 north of Rolla. MoDOT crews will blade patch the roadway to restore shape and stability on Routes E and P, and crews will patch potholes to restore shape and roadway stability on various routes in Phelps County. In Reynolds County, MoDOT crews will perform patching on the roadway. This function restores rideablility of the roadway surface on Routes B and TT, and crews will patch potholes to restore shape and roadway stability on Routes B and Y. In Shannon County, MoDOT crews will pave over the roadway surface to restore smooth ride on Highway 19 and crews will replace, install and/or maintain roadway signs and perform work to improve drainage on various routes in Shannon County. Motorists are urged to exercise caution while passing through work zones. Workers may be on or near the roadway. Signs will be posted and flag persons will be present in areas where traffic will be impacted. Albert Pujols hit two homers -- including a two-run shot in the 10th -- as the St. Louis Cardinals edged the Houston Astros, 8-6, in the finale of a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. So Taguchi also homered in the 10th, and David Eckstein went deep and scored twice for the Cardinals, who have won four of their last five. Braden Looper got the start and allowed three runs on seven hits over six innings. Jason Isringhausen (2-0) walked away with the win after tossing two innings of one- run ball. St. Louis blew a 4-0 lead and was pushed into extra innings, but erupted for three runs in the 10th to salvage the win. Iguchi started the surge with a shot to left that rang off the pole for his second homer of the year. Eckstein followed with a base hit before Pujols stepped in a batter later and belted a two-run home run to left-center. The Cards will have the day off.

To help with the catching situation with the injury to Yadier Molina, the Cardinals acquired veteran catcher Kelly Stinnett from the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations on Sunday. Stinnett was playing for the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas before being shipped to the Cardinals.

In his first appearance of the season, J.P. Howell pitched eight strong innings, to lead Tampa Bay past Kansas City, 5-1, in the third contest of a four-game set at Tropicana Field. Howell (1-0), who was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Friday, allowed just one run on five hits and struck out a career-best seven while not issuing a walk. Kansas City starter Scott Elarton (1-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Jason LaRue homered for the only run of the game for the Royals, who had just five hits and were looking to win their third straight contest. These two teams will play today.

Funeral services for Richard E. Cavanaugh of Cuba, age 74, will be held Thursday at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00.  Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery in Phelps County.

Funeral arrangements for Ella Mae Clark of St. Louis are incomplete, but are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
