The Dent County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported grading was being done on Dent County Road 4080, plus he has three trucks hauling white rock to county road 5600 as part of the work project using Title 2 funds and it is about 60% complete. Purcell said work crews would be replacing circle upper shims on graders #24 and #26, and once completed, grader #24 would be grading county road 5550 and grader #26 would be grading county road 6020. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4040 and 4330, while brush would be cut on county road 3180 and materials would be added to county road 3250. Larson also said that service work was being done on grader #32 and a crew would be patching potholes on chip and seal roads. Larson continued by saying a man would be cutting grass around the shop and that he would be sending receipts to the Missouri Department of Conservation for reimbursement on roads leading to Conservation Areas and those dollars are CART funds. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be participating in a conference call with the CCAM board to discuss bills passed on the last day by the legislature that could affect county revenues. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind establishments that liquor license applications for the county must be in by June 30th. At the drug court budget hearing, the commissioners approved amending the budget for the drug court that showed no additional revenues, a $10,000 increase in appropriations and a decrease in the ending balance to $27,064.64. The commission approved the amended budget by a 3-0 vote. Prosecutor Andrew Curley came in and presented a request for payment of $120.00 to publish a petition of divorce in the Salem News by a federally incarcerated prisoner in Colorado. After a long discussion, Curley recommended the county pay the request and the commissioners agreed to take the money out of the Indigent and Guardian Ad Litem fund in the General Revenue. Curley also needed more information about the John Stagner Cemetery and creating an easement to access the property. After talking with Assessor Tina Whitaker, Curley said he would get a title history on the property before doing the easement and then bring this information to the commissioners to officially be put in the minutes. At the last meeting, Sheriff Rick Stallings told the commissioners meal bids for prisoners need to be submitted by 4:00 on June 6th. The commission will review the bids on June 9th at 10:00 in the morning. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

On Tuesday, May 27th, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Brown Heating and Cooling on Highway 68 in reference to a theft of a skid steer, trailer, trencher and air-condition unit. The items reported stolen were valued at $34,000. Video surveillance was made available through the owner of the business. During review of the video surveillance, a white Dodge flatbed truck was seen arriving at the business at about 3:00 in the early morning.  An unidentified male subject was then seen hooking up the trailer to the truck while another suspect drove the truck. Information gained from many sources led investigators to the St. James area and during that investigation the items reported missing were located. As a result, 36-year old Jesse L Gann of St. James was taken into custody. Gann is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a $30,000 cash only bond.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their June meeting tonight at the fire station at 6:00. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, the Board will review financial reports, approve bills, review the calendar as well as the monthly reimbursement report. In old business the Board will address the building use policy and reimbursement policy. Following any new business, Fire Chief Brad Nash will give updates to the Board and then the Board will set their next meeting for July 1st at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The monthly meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.
