An accident occurred at 7:37 Thursday night in Washington County on Highway 21 just south of Villmer Road. According to the Highway Patrol report, a northbound 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by 27-year old Heath A. After striking the Toyota, Lea’s Dodge traveled off the roadway and overturned.  Lea suffered moderate injuries, while McCarthy had minor injuries. Both were transported to Washington County Memorial Hospital by ambulance. According to the Highway Patrol report, both drivers were wearing their safety restraints. The Dodge sustained extensive damage and the Toyota sustained moderate damage. Elliott Motor Company removed both vehicles from the scene.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, the City had requested bids through Archer Engineering, for sanitary sewer rehabilitation at various locations. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will present the bids. In unfinished business, the Board postponed any decision at the last meeting on accepting the water and sewer lines on the Gollhofer property until further investigation, and the Board also postponed any decision on the City’s healthcare benefits. Lucas offered different plans the City could get from United Healthcare, but if they kept what the City currently had, there would be an increase of 19.9 %. The Board wanted to review the plans and will discuss them at tonight’s meeting. Lucas will update the Board on various other items concerning the City and Mayor Gary Brown will give his report. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing litigation and personnel. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
