The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell was not in attendance as he was in St. James attending a Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave the road report for District 1 and said that crews would be grading Dent County Roads 5090, and 6090 while rock would be hauled and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5520 and 6190. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that crews would be grading Dent County roads 2183, 2270, 3295 and 3305. Grading was also going to be done in the Anutt and Boss areas and crews for both districts would be hauling brown rock to the shed. Skiles then reported that last Thursday he attended a MoDOT meeting in West Plains with officials and representatives where they expressed their concerns with the closing down of the District 9 office and the redistricting plans of MoDOT. The commission agreed by a vote of 2-0 to send a letter to the Highway Transportation Commission opposing the MoDOT re-districting plan and also asking for an extension of the comment period from 30 to 90 days. Skiles also attended a Workshop Investment Board and Presiding Commissioner’s meeting, who serve on that Board from across the state and this was an all day meeting at the Lake of the Ozarks. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she balanced all accounts for the month of May with the Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams. Curley said that she received a letter from the Salem Enterprize Zone requesting that three members of the Board whose terms expire this year be reappointed. A motion was made and Dan Salyer, Cindy Rumpf and Dennis Pryor were reappointed to the Salem Enterprize Zone Board. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday at the Dent County Courthouse beginning at 9:00 am and that meeting is open to the public.

On Sunday, June 5^th at the Salem High School Gym from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Bob Parsons will be honored at a retirement reception, as he is retiring after 40 years of teaching and service in the Salem R-80 School District.

The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Wednesday, May 25^th at 11:00 a.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to embezzlement at the Grand Lodge of Missouri, Independent Order of Odd Fellows located a 301 North Main Street. Investigation of the report revealed that after an internal audit and investigation it was found that $15,400 had been misappropriated. On Thursday, May 26^th at 12:48 p.m. an officer was detailed to the T.C.R.C. on Rolla Road in reference to a fight. Investigation of the report revealed a 15 year-old male juvenile of Salem had assaulted a 14 year-old male juvenile of Salem. He was taken in to custody and released to his parent. The report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. Later that evening at 5:09 p.m. an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on East Highway 32 in reference to theft of fuel. Investigation of the report revealed the driver of a silver P.T. Cruiser pumped $30 in fuel and left without paying. Later on that night at 8:42 p.m. an officer was detailed to a residence in the 500 block of South Highway 19 in reference to an intoxicated subject who refused to leave the residence. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 31 year-old female of Salem for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, May 28^th at 11:30 a.m. an officer while, conducting an investigation, found a 38 year-old male to be in possession of a fully auto AK-47 assault rifle. The weapon was seized and he was taken into custody, pending the application for a warrant. On Sunday, May 29^th at 10:27 p.m. an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Hawkins Street in reference to an intoxicated person pushing in the back door of a residence. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 46 year-old male of Salem for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated. On Monday, May 30^th at 5:51 a.m. an officer was detailed to My Place Restaurant in reference to a burglary. Investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown forcibly entered the building and took $100 cash and caused $250 worth of property damage.  On Monday, May 31^st at 9:14 a.m. an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store on Highway 32 East in reference to theft of fuel. Investigation of the report revealed that the driver of a yellow Ford Focus pumped $26 in fuel and left without paying. On Wednesday, May 1^st at 12:28 p.m. an officer was detailed to Salem Mobil in reference to a theft of fuel. Investigation of the report revealed the driver of a two tone blue small size truck pumped $10 in fuel and left without paying. All 4-H/FFA members with market animal projects that will be showing and selling at the Fair this year are encouraged to attend a Fair Pre-Show on Saturday, June 18^th at the Commons livestock barn beginning at 9:00 am.  First-time exhibitors must attend or pay an additional 1% commission fee. Steers should be brought to the pre-show to acquaint them with the arena and for 4-H’ers to practice leading them with the other steers. Instruction will be given on what the judges will be looking for and how best to show your animal. There will also be demonstrations of how to show hogs and lambs. Aubrey Huff recorded his first career three- home run game and posted six RBI as San Francisco outslugged St. Louis, 12-7, in the finale of a four-game set from Busch Stadium. Colby Rasmus hit a grand slam and drove in a career-high six runs for the Cardinals, who have dropped four of their last six. In his major-league debut, Lance Lynn (0-1) was tagged for four hits and five runs over 5 1/3 frames. He fanned five and did not walk a batter. The Cards start a three game series with the Cubs tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

Michael Cuddyer drove in two runs for the Twins in an 8-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals to open a four-game series. Jeff Francoeur drove in the only two runs for the Royals, who have lost nine of their last 12. Starter Sean O'Sullivan (2-5) was pounded for seven runs, three earned, on eight hits over just 2 2/3 innings to get the loss. The Royals and Twins play again tonight.

Jack Clark Day at the ballpark has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 26^th. Registration is free for boys are 8–15. Boys age 8-12 will be able to participate in a clinic from 2:00 to 3:30 pm and boys age 13-15 the clinic will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Be sure and sign up for Jack Clark Day at the ballpark and get some baseball tips from a former Cardinal legend. That’s Jack Clark Day at the ballpark rescheduled Sunday, June 26^th.
