The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, a stolen vehicle, a fight in progress, shoplifters, a DWI checkpoint and a burglary. On Monday, May 24th at 9:54 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 200 block of North Hickory in reference to damage to private property. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown cut two tires valued at $80.00 each on a black 1997 Honda parked near a residence. On Wednesday, May 26th at 4:20 pm, an officer was dispatched to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a stolen vehicle. The report revealed that two males, approximately 20 to 30 years old, took a black 1993 Mazda that was parked near Highway 19 and Fourth Street. The vehicle was located abandoned in Granite City, Illinois. At 11:15 that night, an officer responded to a residence in the 800 block of North Washington in reference to a fight in progress that led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem female for a disorderly house and a 21-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct.  Both were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. On Thursday, May 27th at 6:13 in the evening, an officer was sent to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter that led to the arrest of a 17-year old female of St. Roberts for stealing merchandise valued at $17.08. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. At 8:24 that same evening, an officer was sent back to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter that led to the arrest of a 20-year old Licking male for stealing merchandise valued at $19.00. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Friday, May 28th at 7:30 in the evening, officers of the Salem Police Department, Dent County Sheriffs Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a D.W.I. checkpoint on Highway 19 South. Officers made three arrests for drug paraphernalia, one arrest for possession of marijuana, four arrests for driving while having a license suspended and one arrest for driving while having their license revoked. Officers wrote four summons for no proof of insurance, one summons for failure to register a motor vehicle and there were two fugitive warrant arrests. On Saturday, May 29th at 5:31 a.m. an officer was detailed to My Place Restaurant at Pershing and Hickory in reference to a burglary.  The report revealed that a person or persons unknown forcibly entered the establishment and took $150.00 cash. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage, the stolen vehicle or the burglary reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

All 4-H/FFA members with market animal projects that will be showing and selling at the Fair are encouraged to attend a Fair Pre-Show on Saturday, June 12^th at the Commons livestock barns beginning at 9:00 am. First-time exhibitors must attend or pay an additional 1% commission fee. Steers should be brought to the pre-show to acquaint them with the arena and for 4-H’ers to practice leading them with the other steers. Instruction will be given on what the judges will be looking for and how best to show your animal. There will be demonstrations of how to show hogs and lambs as well.

The University of Missouri Extension’s Salem TCRC will host a hands-on workshop titled “Introduction to QuickBooks Pro 2010”.  This workshop will be held this Friday, June 4th, from 9:30 am to 4:00 p.m. This workshop will be taught by University of Missouri Business Development Specialist, Mick Gilliam. You will learn how to set up accounts; enter transactions; create invoices; do payroll; track customers and vendors; and how to generate  financial reports. Students will have hands on instruction in the Salem TCRC Computer Lab. Each participant will have a computer workstation. Class size is limited to 10 students. The Salem TCRC is located in the Salem Freedom Activity Center at 1200 W.
