According to a Cuba Police Department report, an incident occurred early Friday morning, May 29^th at 12:34 involving Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks. According to the report, the police department received a phone call about a disturbance in the Cuba McDonald’s parking lot. When the police arrived they found the disturbance to be between Sparks and her husband Daniel Reeves. The police questioned both of them and found a number of inconsistencies in their stories including her accusation of being kidnapped and being scared of Reeves because he had a gun. The kidnapping claim was dismissed from answers Sparks gave to officers. After asking permission to search Spark’s vehicle which she granted, an officer found a Kahr 9mm pistol in a case in the front passenger floor board and a plastic bag containing various prescription medications belonging to Sparks. The weapon was removed from her vehicle and disarmed for the safety of everyone involved. The police released both parties without an arrest being made. Sparks left the scene in her truck, and Reeves was picked up later by an acquaintance.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting in unfinished business, Alderman Kenneth Nash recommended that the city advertise for and hire an electric department supervisor, and add the position to the upcoming budget. The board approved his request. Alderman Jim McDaniels asked about the re-asphalting of the streets in town and Mayor Gary Brown says that was completed Monday. He asked about contracting out the brush and limb removal in the city since the city workers are about 55% finished picking up the debris from the storm, and Mayor Brown said that could be done but it would be at prevailing wage. McDaniels asked about the cleaning of waterways and Mayor Brown said that DNR and the Missouri Municipal League said that the city could cleanout the ditches on private property once they have written permission from the property owners. He also said that SEMA may actually pay for the cleanout of the ditches because of the storm, but they have not yet heard from them. The city may also look at having prisoners from Licking or those doing community service clean out the ditches. Alderman Nash asked about the company that made a presentation to the board about collecting old account receivable accounts and Attorney Nanci Wisdom said that the ordinance is ready but she did not get it done in time to be presented at this meeting to allow the city to go out for bids for bad debt collectors. Mayor Brown said that there would be a Finance Committee meeting on Thursday at 6:00 or 6:30. He said that he, Jack Emory and Mr. Meadows from Archer Engineering along with MEC Water Resources were in Jefferson City to talk with DNR about the Spring Creek. Brown also said that the city is placing an ad in the Salem News to take bids to abate the Western Cherokee property where the Old Middle School is as well as property on Louise Street. The board approved Ordinance #3165 to allow the mayor to execute an agreement with the Dent County Fall Festival Boardto use the Commons for the Independence Day Celebration; and they approved Ordinance #3166 to authorize the mayor to execute an agreement between the city and the Dent County Museum for the services they provide. In new business, the board approved staying with the same health care plan they have with United Health Care with an 11% increase going from $471 per employee per month to $523 per employee per month. After the bills were approved, the board went into closed session.

An accident happened at 9:46 Sunday morning in Phelps County eastbound on I-44 in Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 GMC Yukon driven by 37-year old Daphne Bartle of Rolla crossed the centerline, ran off the left side of the roadway, returned to the roadway and overturned several times. Bartle was ejected onto the driving portion of I-44. The Yukon came to rest in the roadway. Bartle suffered serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene by St. John’s Life Line and taken to the University Medical Center in Columbia. She was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Yukon was totaled and removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’ s Towing of Rolla.

Laynce Nix doubled in two runs and Cincinnati used five relievers after an injury to starter Edinson Volquez to shut down the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-3, in the opener of a four-game series. Colby Rasmus went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Cardinals, who were coming off a 3-3 road trip at Milwaukee and San Francisco. Todd Wellemeyer (5-5) surrendered five hits and four runs -- three earned -- over five innings to suffer the loss. The Cardinals and Reds play again tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals were off Monday and will travel to Tampa Bay tonight to face the Rays.

Cardinals’ first baseman Albert Pujols continues to pace all players in the National League balloting for this year's All-Star Game, to be held July 14 in St. Louis. Pujols, a seven-time All-Star, has compiled 1,240,395 votes. Cardinals’ catcher Yadier Molina (629,007), aiming for his first appearance in the Summer Classic, extended his lead over the likes of Jason Kendall (471,557) of the Brewers, Houston's Ivan Rodriguez (423,369), Atlanta's Brian McCann (416,149) and LA's Russell Martin (385,532) in this the second N.L. balloting update.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Friday that free agent safety Jarrad Page signed his restricted free agent tender. A three-year veteran of the NFL, Page was drafted by the Chiefs in the seventh round of the 2006 draft.

Funeral services for Viola Rose Agricola of Cuba, age 96 will be held this morning at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis.

Funeral services for Mary Stotler of Washington, MO, age 79, will be held today, at 12:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial services for Norman Gary Land of Salem, age 62, will be held Wednesday at 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:30 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Land family.

Funeral services for Lorraine Harrison of St. James, age 68, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Graveside Services for J. Richene Emory Lanbach of Willow Springs, age 74, will be held on Saturday, June 13^th at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

A Memorial Service for William J. Higginbotham of Rolla, age 72, will be held Saturday, June 20^th at 7:00 at the Central Community Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Central Community Church of God or the American Cancer Society. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
