The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5450, 6230, 6590 and 6595. Simpson also said that material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 4122 and 6633, and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3120, 3180, 4437 and 5320, and a crew would be patching pot holes on Dent County Road 2300. Tune also said that District 2 has project worksheets that are ready to be turned in to FEMA for reimbursement. Crews have been busy repairing flood damaged roads and bridges, and are still working on Dent County Road 2540 where the expected cost of the damage is to be around $23,000. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he spoke with Dent County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks about the lease-purchase agreement between the county and Mark Weaver and Kelly Parker. Skiles said that Weaver is out of town this week, but he and Sparks would like to meet with him before the closing on June 5
th to go over a few issues. At the meeting, the Commission also discussed the new assistant prosecuting attorney’s salary. The assistant prosecutor is getting paid a full time position salary and the Commissioners agreed that if the assistant prosecutor is getting paid for full time, then she must work 40 hours a week to be eligible for benefits. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
We earlier reported that cell phone number are being released to telemarketing firms but that is not the case. We have found out that it is illegal for the automated dialers telemarketers use to dial cell phones. But if you use your cell phone as your only phone on applications for credit or prize registrtaions, you may receive calls from those firms or their affiliates. To prevent telemarketing calls to your cell phone, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. This is the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL list. You should call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You can also register online at www.donotcall.gov. The registration is free!
The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports. On Wednesday, May 21st at 6:15 in the evening the Fire District responded to an ambulance assist on West Third Street. A total of six firefighters responded to the call. On Thursday, May 22nd at 12:11 in the afternoon, the Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist alarm on Dent County Road 4283. A total of five firefighters responded to the call. On Saturday, May 24th at 9:25 in the morning, the Fire Protection District responded to ambulance assist alarm. A total of three firefighters responded. Also on the 24th, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to brush fire on Dent County Road 5080. When they arrived on the scene the property owner stated it was a controlled burn, and a total of five firefighters responded. On Sunday, May 25th at 5:20 in the evening, the Fire Protection District created a landing zone on Dent County Road 429. A total of eight firefighters were present. At 5:45 that evening, the Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist on West 7th Street. A total of eight firefighters were present. At 6:20 in the evening, the Fire Protection District created a landing zone at the station. A total of eight firefighters responded. At 7:50 the same evening, Dent County Emergency Management paged all fire departments in the area for storm spotting and a total of six firefighters were present. The alert was called down by 8:30. On Monday, May 26th at 11:13 in the morning, the Dent County Fire Protection District responded to an ambulance assist on Highway 32 East and a total of five firefighters were present.

Skip Schumaker drove in three runs to help the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-4, in the third installment of a four-game set at Busch Stadium. Braden Looper (7-4) gave up three runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings for the Cardinals. The right-hander had two hits, scored twice and knocked in a run. Ryan Franklin overcame a rocky ninth inning to notch his sixth save of the season. Troy Glaus belted a solo home run and singled twice for St. Louis, which has won three of its last four games. Adam Kennedy and Cesar Izturis each had an RBI. The Cardinals and Prirates will wrap up their series tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio. Pittsburgh's Tom Gorzelanny (4-5) and St. Louis' Adam Wainwright (5-2) are scheduled to start the game tonight.
Before the game Sunday, the Cardinals recalled reliever Mark Worrell from Triple-A Memphis and optioned pitcher Kelvin Jimenez to Memphis. Jimenez gave up five runs on three home runs on Saturday night.
Jose Guillen finished 3-for-4 with a home run and drove in two, and Brian Bannister pitched 7 1/3 strong innings, as Kansas City clobbered Cleveland, 6-1, in the rubber match of a three-game set from Kauffman Stadium. Mark Grudzielanek hit a two-run homer and scored twice while Alex Gordon knocked in a pair for the Royals, who won the final two games of the series after a 12-game losing streak. Bannister (5-6) put together one of his better performances of the season, scattering five hits and one run with four strikeouts and winning for the first time in four starts. The Royals have the day off today.

Graveside services for Peggy Briner of St. James, age 84, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in St. James.
Private funeral services for Wayne L. Farho of Salem, age 55, will be held at a later date and are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Daniel Estel of Anutt are incomplete and under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.
