There were no boating fatalities over the 2011 Memorial Day weekend. However, troopers investigated eight boating crashes involving one injury and one person drowned at the Lake of the Ozarks. Troopers also arrested 23 people for boating while intoxicated over the holiday weekend. During the 2010 Memorial Day weekend, officers investigated 14 boating accidents, which included eight injuries and zero fatalities. Skip Schumaker legged out an infield single, allowing the go-ahead run to score in a three-run eighth frame, as St. Louis downed San Francisco, 4-3, in the second of four games at Busch Stadium. Ryan Franklin (1-3) struck out the side in the eighth to claim the win, while Fernando Salas pitched around a two-out double to claim his 10th save. John Jay was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Albert Pujols celebrated his second start this season at third base with a 2-for-3 night that included a run scored and an RBI. The Cardinals have won two of three overall. The Cards and Giants play again tonight at 6:40 on KSMO.

Eric Hosmer and Jeff Francoeur each drove in two runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, 7-3, to even up a three-game set. Chris Getz went 3-for-4 for the Royals, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Kansas City's Jeff Francis (2-5) was solid in seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks. The National League All-Star starting lineup could look quite a bit like the group that Cardinals manager Tony La Russa writes out every day, if the early balloting results stand. Four Cardinals are strong contenders for All-Star berths, and if voting ended now, three would be in the lineup. At the top of the list is something of a surprise. Albert Pujols, whose numbers have lagged far behind his usual performance this year, leads all NL vote-getters with 988,784 votes received as of Tuesday's first update. Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman stand second and third among outfielders. Yadier Molina, though, needs some help. Molina, who is on pace to have his best offensive season, stands in third among NL catchers, trailing Buster Posey of the Giants and the Braves' Brian McCann. McCann's edge over Molina is a mere 38,000 votes, and with Posey out for the year due to injury, that's likely the battle to watch.
