The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was being done on Dent County Roads 6080, 6083, 6085, 4160, 5110 and 5130; while materials were being hauled to Dent County Roads 4160, 5110, 5130 and 5170. Purcell went on to say that he had a man taking truck #119 to Columbia for technical repairs. Commissioner Purcell also stated that a crew was patching chip and seal roads, and a man was screening brown rock at the Road and Bridge Department. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading was being done on and materials were being hauled to Dent County Roads 2330 and 5280. Commissioner Larson also indicated that he had a crew patching chip and seal on Dent County Roads 2240, 3280, as well as 6150 if time permitted. Commissioner Larson added that he attended that CDBG Grant Public Hearing on Tuesday and there was no opposition. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles had nothing to report. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reminded everyone that absentee voting would continue in her office 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM today, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon on Saturday and from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday. Curley went on to state that the polls would be open for voting on Tuesday from 6:00 AM until 7:00 PM. The Commission held the Sheriff’s Department Revolving Fund budget adjustment hearing, which was made necessary by the increase in Conceal and Carry Permits and the related increase in income and expenses. The original budget balance for December 31, 2013 was $25,644.19 and was amended to $ 32,662.04. The next meeting of the Commission will be Monday at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.
Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol has released its traffic crash summary for the month of April. According to Sergeant Dan Crain, Troop I recorded one traffic fatality which is four less than April 2012. The report indicated that during the month there were 155 crashes and 46 injured motorists in addition to the one fatality, compared to April of 2012 when there were 134 crashes and 70 injuries with five fatalities recorded. During April, there were 12 crashes in Dent County with 4 injuries and no fatalities, Crawford County reported 19 crashes with 4 injuries and no fatalities, and in Laclede County, and there were 34 crashes with 7 injuries and the one fatality. Sergeant Crain went on to state that in Maries County there were 7 crashes and 3 injuries, while in Phelps County, there were 49 crashes and 13 injuries. The highway patrol reported 34 crashes with 13 injuries in Pulaski County.
The Salem Police Department released more of their reports. On Monday, May 20th at 11:41 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the City Truck Parking lot located on Babb Lane in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown stole fuel valued $374.00 from a gold 2006 Freightliner. Later at 8:15 pm, an officer was sent to Casey’s General Store on Macarthur in reference to a theft. Investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown took a bottle of alcohol valued $6.89. On Tuesday, May 21st at 8:20 in the evening, officer was contacted in reference to stalking. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 39-year old male of Salem. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, May 22nd at 7:37 in the morning, an officer was called to Park Street Tire in reference to a burglary. Investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown entered the building, took $110.00 cash and caused $50.00 in property damage. That morning at 7:44, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store in reference to a theft. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 33-year old female of Salem for stealing liquor valued $21.57. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, May 23rd at 11:06 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. Investigation of the report revealed that person or persons unknown took items valued $278.00 from a utility truck parked on Babb Lane at the City Truck Parking lot. Anyone with information regarding the burglary, theft and theft of fuel is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Michael Wacha made a stellar major league debut for St. Louis, and the Kansas City Royals ruined it with a three-run rally in the ninth inning to defeat the Cardinals, 4-2, and snap an eight-game losing streak. Cardinals reliever Mitchell Boggs (0-3) entered in the ninth trying to hold a 2-1 lead, and it took two pitches for Jeff Francoeur to smack a tying home run. After a walk to Alex Gordon, Victor Marte replaced Boggs and hit Alcides Escobar before giving up a two-RBI double by Eric Hosmer. A heavy downpour then moved over Busch Stadium, forcing the game into 4 1/2 hour delay with the bases loaded and no outs. Wacha, who was called up from Triple-A Memphis prior to the game, allowed just two hits and one run and had six strikeouts over seven innings. The 21-year-old righty retired the first 13 batters he faced. David Freese and Allen Craig had an RBI apiece in the setback. The Royals will start a three-game series with the Texas Rangers tonight. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants tonight, and you can hear it on KSMO Radio at 6:40.
Kansas City Royals legend George Brett has been named the club's interim hitting coach, effective immediately. Brett is the Royals' all-time hit leader with 3,154 and had served as vice president of baseball operations. He had worked as a coach during spring training, but will assume an in-season role for the first time.

Funeral services for David C. Marcee Sr. of St. James, age 68, will be held today at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Funeral services for Ray Reynolds of St. James, age 90, will be held today at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from noon until time of service. Interment will be in the Asher Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Town Equine Program.
A Memorial service for Thomas Howard LaRonge Boyd of Lemay, age 56, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Cherryville Church of God in Cherryville. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville with full Military Honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Funeral services for Dorothy Flanagan of St. Peter, formerly of St. James, age 79, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from noon until service time.
Memorial services for Carolyn Ann Steiner of Rolla, age 58, will be held at 1:00 on Saturday, June 8th at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
