The Salem Police Department released their reports of burglary and theft. On Wednesday, May 15
th at 3:47 in the afternoon, officers went to a residence in the 1400 block of South Main during the investigation of active warrants and drug activity. The investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year old female of Salem on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem and a 29-year old female of Salem for possession of methamphetamine, distribution of opiates and possession of drug paraphernalia. The 24-year old female was incarcerated on the active warrant and the 29-year old female was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. At 11:10 that evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of West Dent in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 22-inch push mower valued at $139.00 from the yard of a residence. On Thursday, May 16
th at 4:55 in the afternoon, a 43-year old female of Rolla was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine and distribution of a controlled substance after a search of a room at the Holiday Inn Express. She was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Friday, May 17
th at 7:30 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of East Ninth in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence by force and took items and cash valued at $1260.00. On Saturday, May 18
th at 10:28 in the evening, an officer made contact with an 18-year old male of Salem in the 1500 block of Highway 32 West. The male was found to be in possession of marijuana and taken into custody. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with information regarding the burglary or theft, which are still under investigation, should contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
The City of Salem’s Finance Committee will hold a budget meeting, called by City Administrator Clayton Lucas, tonight at 6:00 in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the budget FYE 2013-2014. This meeting is open to the public. THIS MEETING HAS BEEN CANCELLED!
Mayor Gary Brown was re-elected by the Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) board to serve as the group’s chairman for a second consecutive year at its May 9th meeting. Also appointed to second terms were fellow MRPC officers–Potosi Mayor T.R. Dudley, vice chairman; MRPC at-large representative for the unemployed Mary Heywood, secretary; and Maries County Presiding Commissioner Ray Schwartze, treasurer. As chair, Brown leads the meetings and represents the board at events such as the annual conference of the National Association of Development Organizations in Washington D.C. Formed in 1969, MRPC is a council of governments serving Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski and Washington counties and their respective cities.
Missouri Preservation announced its List of Most Endangered Places for 2013 on Tuesday, May 21st. The endangered sites were identified at a Missouri Preservation Press Conference held at the Historic Henry Miller House at 106 Cape Road in Bloomfield, which is included on the 2013 List of Most Endangered Historic Places. The Most Endangered Historic Places Program, one of Missouri Preservation's most visible programs, brings much needed attention to threatened historic resources throughout the state. The Most Endangered Program annually spotlights historic resources that are imperiled. Each year Missouri Preservation solicits nominations from around the State, evaluates the merits of the submissions, and announces the Most Endangered. Included on the 2013 List of Missouri's Most Endangered Historic Places is the Camp Zoe area at Round Spring in Shannon County. Included on the 2013 “Watched Properties” List is the Lyric Theater Building of Newburg in Phelps County; and Historic Bridges on the old Route 66 in Missouri – statewide. Missouri Preservation, founded as the Missouri Heritage Trust in 1976 and now known formally as Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation, is Missouri's only statewide non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, supporting, and coordinating historic preservation activities throughout Missouri. Its primary recognition program is the Statewide Preservation Honor Awards presented yearly at the State Capitol and its chief advocacy program is the annual announcement of Missouri's Most Endangered Historic Places.

Daniel Descalsco broke a tie game with a pinch-hit, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals scored four times in the frame to rally for a 5-3 decision over the reeling Kansas City Royals at Busch Stadium. Carlos Beltran ignited the comeback with a solo home run, with David Freese adding an RBI single prior to Descalso's hit to help the Cardinals to their seventh victory in eight games. Aaron Crow (0-1) was saddled with the loss, the eighth in a row for Kansas City, after being rocked for four runs and five hits while getting just two outs in the eighth. Alex Gordon went 3-for-5 and scored once to pace the Royals offensively. Starting pitcher Luis Mendoza had an RBI single in addition to holding St. Louis to one run over 5 2/3 effective innings. The Cardinals and Royals play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40.

Funeral services for Frank Edward Wiget of Steelville, age 75, will be held today at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Graveside services will be held today at 2:00 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Golden Echoes, the Steelville Scholarship fund or the Steelville Community Child Care Center.
Funeral services for Doris Mae Wood of Salem, age 85, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Wood Family.
A memorial service for Melvin Miller of Salem, age 59, will be tonight at 7:00 PM at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 until the time of service.
Funeral services for David C. Marcee Sr. of St. James, age 68, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Funeral services for Ray Reynolds of St. James, age 90, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from noon until time of service. Interment will be in the Asher Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Town Equine Program.
A Memorial service for Thomas “Tom” Howard LaRonge Boyd of Lemay, age 56, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Cherryville Church of God in Cherryville. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville with full Military Honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Graveside services for Dorothy Flanagan of St. Peter, formerly of St. James, age 79, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Funeral services for Carolyn Ann Steiner of Rolla, age 58, are incomplete and under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
