Gargus suffered minor injuries and was taken by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital.

On Tuesday, June 3rd, an evening program will be held at 7:00 pm at the Bank of Salem Courtesy Room, with topics that should be of interest to area beef and livestock producers.  The program’s speakers will include Gregg Barrows, Executive Director for Dent, Phelps, Crawford and Texas County’s Farm Service Agency. Gregg will provide information about the USDA’s Drought Assistance Program, which is designed to provide financial assistance to livestock producers who suffered losses during the drought of 2012. This information should be of interest to any livestock producer who owned cattle during 2012, specifically after May 24th, 2012. Additionally, Dr. Jared Decker, MU Extension Beef Genetics Specialist will provide a presentation about using selection indexes and genomic enhanced EPD’s for making profitable decisions about selecting your next beef herd sire. Given today’s prices for feeder cattle, replacement females and bulls, making good decisions about your herd’s genetics is as important as ever, and Dr. Decker’s presentation should help you better understand how to select the best sires possible for your herd. This program is sponsored by Dent County University of Missouri Extension and the Dent County Cattlemen’s Association. There is no charge for the program, however, please RSVP by June 2, by calling the Dent County MU Extension Office at 573-729-3196. For more information, please contact Ted Cunningham, MU Extension Livestock Specialist at the Dent County Office or by email at cunninghamtc@missouri.edu
