The Salem Police Department has released several reports. On Sunday, May 6th at 12:16 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female on an active warrant from Gasconade County. She was incarcerated pending extradition. That afternoon at 1:45, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of South Water in reference to stolen utilities. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown manipulated a meter to run when previously turned off for the amount of $219.57. Then at 3:19 that same afternoon, officers of the Salem Police Department, the Dent County Sheriffs Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of South Elmer. The search warrant revealed evidence that led to the arrest of a 34-year old male and a 21-year old female, both of Salem, for distribution of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child. Both were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Tuesday, May 8th at 10:15 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $14.47. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. An accident occurred Sunday at 3:59 in the afternoon in Franklin County on Highway 185 just north of Little Boone Creek Road that took the life of a Rolla man. According to the highway patrol report, 25-year old Autumn J. Smith of Rolla was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway. The Nissan then traveled off the right side of the road, struck a driveway, became airborne, and struck a tree. Smith suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to the Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur. An occupant, 26-year old Christopher A. Harrah of Rolla, was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Sauder at 4:17 and his body was taken to the St. Louis County Morgue. Another occupant, 5-year old Christopher L. Harrah of Rolla, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. Christopher A. Harrah was the only one not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Nissan was totaled and removed from the scene by Chuck’s Towing.
A couple of one-vehicle accidents occurred on Saturday, May 26th in Crawford County that left the drivers with serious injuries. The first accident happened at 4:15 in the afternoon on Highway M about five miles west of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Lincoln Town Car driven by 71-year old Melvin Lawson of Cook Station ran off the right side of the roadway and struck two trees. Lawson suffered serious injuries and was flown to the University Medical Center in Columbia. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Lincoln was totaled and removed from the scene by Mile’s Towing. The second accident occurred at 6:44 in the evening on Highway N about six miles south of Bourbon. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 42-year old Kyle Hunt of High Ridge ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the road, struck a culvert, and overturned. Hunt was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries. He was flown to Mercy Medical in St. Louis. Hunt was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by Brad’s Towing.
Gary Brown, Mayor of Salem, was elected chairman of Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) during the group’s May 10 meeting in St. James. Brown succeeds Russell Scheulen, who had served the maximum two-year term as chairman. Brown had served two years as vice chairman. Other officers elected during the meeting are: Vice Chairman T.R. Dudley, mayor of Potosi. Dudley had previously served as secretary; Secretary Mary Heywood, at-large board member, representing unemployed. Heywood had previously served as treasurer; and Treasurer Ray Schwartze, presiding commissioner of Maries County. The board also approved at-large board members for three-year terms. They are: Russell Scheulen, at-large board member representing farming; replacing Leo Dickey who retired from the board after 14 years; Jan Haviland, at-large board member representing industry, re-appointed for a full term; Travis Schwarz, at-large board member representing small business; replacing Laura Antolak who retired from the board after 12 years; John Casey, at-large board member representing transportation; replacing Donald Dodd who retired after serving five years on the board; and Marcus Maggard, at-large representative on the executive board, who was re-appointed for another term. The MRPC board also approved Brown to serve as an MRPC representative for the Meramec Regional Community Foundation board. He replaced Antolak on that board. Terms for the newly elected MRPC officers will begin in June. The MRPC board will meet at 7:30 p.m. June 14
th at its office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James. All meetings are open to the public.

Matt Adams finished with three hits and knocked in three runs to help the St. Louis Cardinals take an 8-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves in the opener of a three-game set on Monday at Turner Field. Daniel Descalso smacked a two-run home run for the Cardinals and Lance Lynn (8-1) spun seven strong innings, yielding two runs on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. The Cardinals and Braves play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 5:35.
Jose Lopez drove in three runs as the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals, 8-5, in the opener of a three-game set. Eric Hosmer and Brayan Pena both homered for Kansas City, which has dropped four of its last six games. The Royals and Indians play again tonight.

Funeral services for Louis “Louie” Chapman of Edgar Springs, age 80, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Edgar Springs Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
Funeral services for Troy D. Galloway of Jadwin, age 47, will be Wednesday at 11:00 at the Salem Christian Church in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:30 until the service time at 11:00. Military Honors will be held at the church following the service. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services for Leonard Boyd Page of Ypsilanti, Michigan and formerly of Salem, age 83, will be held Thursday at the Salem Full Gospel Church. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Graveside services for Connie Nivens of Salem, age 69, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Empire Cemetery in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
No services are scheduled for Thomas Wayne Edwards of Salem, age 56. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
