The Dent County Extension Office is working out of Salem TCRC for the time being due to flooding of the office.  The phones have been switched over, so the phone number remains the same for the office.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that District 1 received up to two inches of rain in a short amount of time Wednesday evening, therefore crews would be busy checking roads for washouts and patching where necessary.  Purcell also said that a crew would be removing a downed tree from Dent County Road 6190, checking a bridge on Dent County Road 6080 to make sure it is clear of debris, and continuing with the ongoing clean up effort from the Mother’s Day storm. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that crews are repairing flood damage on Dent County Roads 2330, 2340 and 2380, and also extending a culvert on Dent County Road 2380. He also said a crew would be replacing signs on various roads throughout the district. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the south part of the Judicial Building roof was in the process of being replaced when the rain hit Wednesday evening, causing major flood damage in the Extension and Circuit Clerks office. Skiles said roofers worked late into the evening after the rain had passed to finish the roof, so no other problems would occur. Both the roofing company and the county has insurance, so whatever damage has been done will be covered. Skiles said Serv-Pro Fire and Water Cleanup Restoration from Rolla came down Wednesday night to place machines in the building to prevent mold and was there yesterday to start the cleanup process. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she and the Commissioners attended a Board of Equalization meeting Wednesday in Springfield, and while there the county purchased five polling booths from Greene County for $5.00 a piece. Sam Cahill stopped by the meeting to ask the Commission if the Montauk area had been declared a disaster area. Commissioner Skiles said that Governor Nixon is waiting on President Obama to declare the area a disaster at which time disaster assistance could then be provided. David Rekowski came by the meeting to express his concerns about the county maintaining Dent County Road 4290. He stated the county has widened the road more than needed, and lowered the road in front of his mailbox preventing him from receiving mail.  Commissioner Larson said he would look at the road in front of his property, but will not stop maintaining the road because it is a public road. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened at 7:52 Thursday morning in Franklin County on Highway 47 about a quarter of a mile north of Route AD. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Ford Focus driven by 40-year old Valerie Tucker of Salem was traveling northbound on highway 47. The Ford was stopping in traffic when a 2008 Ford F-150 driven by 27-year old Kenneth Frossard of St. Clair attempted to stop and skidded into the backend of the Ford Focus. Tucker suffered moderate injuries and was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Washington by the Union ambulance. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford F-150 sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. The Ford Focus sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Hoffman’s Towing.

Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, recorded four traffic fatalities during the month of April 2009. This is three more than April 2008. In 2008, there were 168 accidents with 70 injuries and one fatality compared to 184 accidents with 78 injuries and one fatality reported in 2009. The total fatalities for 2009 are four, which are ten less than last year. In April, Crawford County reported that there were 33 accidents with 16 injuries; there were 13 accidents reported in Dent County with 13 injuries and one fatality, Phelps County reported that there were 52 accidents with 19 injuries and one fatality, and there were 40 accidents that occurred in Pulaski County with 14 injuries and one fatality.

 The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Fulton Hornets today in the Class 3 Baseball Quarterfinal starting at 12;00 noon. The cost of admission is $6.00 per person. Salem enters the game with a 20-2 record while Fulton comes into the contest with a 15-9 record. The winner will play next Friday night at Springfield at Meador Park starting at 7:00 in the state semi-final. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday and will travel to San Francisco tonight to face the Giants starting at 8:55. Starter Kyle Lohse may miss his start tonight after being hit in the arm last week. He will be evaluated prior to the game. The game Saturday will start at 7:45 and on Sunday afternoon at 2:45. The Cardinals have won their last seven out of nine games and last two straight. You can hear all the games on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals also had the day off yesterday and will host the Chicago White Sox in a Central Division matchup this weekend. The Royals are currently four games out of first place in the Division behind Detroit.

The Missouri State Bears have named Kyle Moats director of athletics.

Funeral services for Dorella Steelman Beckett of Smithville, age 77, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mary Stotler of Washington, MO, age 79, will be held Tuesday, at 11 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 10 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements for Jeffrey Allen Leonard of St. Peters, age 40, will be held Monday at 1:00 in the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Amreican Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Viola Rose Agricola of Cuba, age 96 will be held Tuesday at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00-8:00. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis.

Graveside Services for J. Richene Emory Lambach of Willow Springs, age 74, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for William J. Higginbotham of Rolla, age 72 are incomplete and under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
