The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has released a report for an incident that involved a self-inflicted gunshot wound. On Saturday, May 24^th at 9:30 in the evening, deputies were dispatched to Highway TT in reference to a gunshot wound. Deputies arrived and were directed to an area behind a detached garage approximately 25 yards from the house. The victim, 65-year old David Miller, was located behind the garage on his side with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the right side of his head. The Salem Memorial District Hospital EMS along with the Crawford County Steelville Ambulance arrived and began medical treatment. Miller was taken to the landing zone located at Highway 19 and TT and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. On Sunday, May 25^th the reporting deputy contacted the family to get an update on his condition and was informed that Miller later died as a result of his injuries. The St. Louis County Medical Examiners Office notified Dent County Coroner Gina White that David Miller died as a result of a brain hemorrhage due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at 10:40 am by Dr. S. Ivaturi. No autopsy was performed and the body was released to the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville after organ donation per the family request.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Office has also released their additional reports. On Monday, May 19^th at 10:15 in the morning, deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of South Warfel Street. The information from the traffic stop led deputies to the 800 block of East 3^rd Street. After further investigation, 22-year old Alfred N. Burns of Salem was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Burns is currently incarcerated in the Dent County Jail for Distribution of a controlled substance with a $7,000 cash only bond. On Friday, May 23^rd deputies responded to the 600 block of County Road 6400 for a report of property damage. Deputies discovered that a 37-year old Salem male was the reported victim. He stated that on that morning he discovered that someone had busted the windshield out of his truck. On Sunday, May 25^th, deputies responded to the 1900 block of County Road 4030 to investigate a possible burglary. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a 53-year old male of Blue Springs was the reported victim of a burglary.  The owner stated that the residence was secureon May 11^th and when he returned on May 25^th he discovered that the residence was broken into. Numerous items were removed from the residence. On Tuesday, May 27^th, deputies responded to the 100 block of County Road 2410 and arrested 40-year old Jason W. Hodges of Salem, on a Dent County Warrant for resisting arrest. Hodges was incarcerated in the Dent County Jail with a bond of $5,000 cash only. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage or burglary, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.

An accident occurred at 5:45 Tuesday evening in Iron County that resulted in five individuals being air lifted. According to the highway patrol report, 24-year old Alicia Martin of Lesterville was driving a 2005 Dodge Durango south on Highway 21 about eight miles south of Arcadia when she crossed the centerline and struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by 25-year old Shawnia Wallis of Des Arc. Alicia Martin suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Iron County Hospital. Shawnia Wallis suffered serious injuries and was flown to the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Two 4-year old occupants in the Caravan, Bailey Wallis and Gracie Wallis of Des Arc, suffered serious injuries and were flown to the Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Two other occupants in the Caravan, 10-year old Marissa Lindsay and 28-year-old Robin Lindsay of Annapolis, suffered serious injuries and were flown to hospitals in St. Louis. The remaining occupants in the Caravan, 35-year old Myra Akers of Piedmont and 10-year old Christine Lindsay of Annapolis, were taken by ambulance to the Iron County Hospital. Myra Akers suffered serious injuries while Christine Lindsay suffered moderate injuries. The lone occupant in the Durango, 22-year old Zachary Martin of Lesterville, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Iron County Hospital by a private vehicle. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles were totaled and removed by Adam’s Wrecker of Arcadia.

Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol recorded three traffic fatalities during the month of April 2014. This is two more than April 2013. There were 134 accidents with 50 injuries and three fatalities for April 2014 compared to 153 accidents with 46 injuries and one fatality for April 2013. Reporting for April were Crawford County with 23 accidents and seven injuries, Dent County reported 13 accidents with four injuries and Laclede County reported 20 accidents with 15 injuries and two fatalities. Also reporting for April were Maries County with three accidents with four injuries and one fatality, Phelps County reported 38 accidents with six injuries and Pulaski County reported 37 accidents with 14 injuries.

Lance Lynn threw his first career complete game, a five-hit shutout to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-0 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Lynn (6-2) threw 69 of his 109 pitches for strikes, walking three and striking out two. Matt Holliday and Allen Craig ended long homerless droughts with solo shots for the Cardinals, who improved to 10-3 in their last 13 games. The Cardinals and Yankees play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:40.

Collin McHugh pitched seven scoreless innings as the Houston Astros grabbed a 3-0 win over the Kansas City Royals in the second of a three-game set. Jeremy Guthrie gave up a run on seven hits over six innings to absorb the loss for the Royals, who have dropped four of their last five. The Royals and Astros play again today.

Funeral services for Buell Naramore, age 92, of Ironton will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary.  Visitation will be from 9:00 until time of service.

Graveside services for Alpha Bernice Mooney Johnson of Excelsior Springs, formerly of Salem, age 92, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Green Forest Cemetery. All arrangements  are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for David Ray Miller of Steelville, age 65, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Burial will be in the Martin-Trask Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for Elizabeth Ilene Benton of Cook Station, age 93, will be held Friday at 4:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 2:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Carr Cemetery in Cook Station.

Memorial services for “Mr. Mac” Stephen McBurnett, Sr. of Goodland, age 67, will be held Sunday, June 1^st at the Viburnum High School at 2:00. Memorials can be made to the Iron County C-4 School Track & Field. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
