The Planning & Zoning Commission will conduct a public hearing and meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers, beginning at 6:30, regarding the subdividing of 5400 Ranch Motel Drive owned by Ray Gollhofer and the Dent County & Council for a Healthy Dent County submission of a CDBG Grant Application for the Salem Community Center. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting will follow beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Libby Sanders wants to apprise the Board on the sewer leak on the Bonebrake Center of Nature and History property and request that the Board re-examine the damages done to the property and the need for easements. Other people or groups to speak include Michael Caselman who would like to inquire if there was an active Vector Control Program in place in the city, and the Grace Community Church is requesting permission to block the street at 600 South Water from the South end of their parking lot to the corner of Water and Franklin for the purpose of a community outreach on Friday, July 5^th from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. Also during the hearing of persons, Joseph P. Simon and Pat Sanders would like to address the Phineas the dog case, and John Hambacker is requesting more transparency and open city business to encourage citizen participation. City of Salem Mayor, Gary Brown will then report on the public hearing held May 13^th regarding adopting the new planning & zoning Code Book. City Attorney Seay will then update the Board on the public hearing and meeting held prior to the meeting. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills and Resolutions, the board will review and vote on Resolution #9-2013 a resolution required in order for the Mayor to sign the CDBG application, discuss and vote on Ordinance #3269, an ordinance required to adopt the new City Code Book, and vote on Ordinance #3270 that is required for “No Parking” on a portion of Franklin Street that was approved at the last Board of Alderman meeting. In New and Miscellaneous Business, MoDOT Engineer Preston Kramer would like to discuss the “On The Move” initiative with the Board, which is a statewide public engagement effort they are currently undertaking to gain additional input into Missouri transportation future. City Administrator Clayton Lucas wishes to update the Board on the City’s health care benefits through United Health Care, and Alderman Giacomelli wishes to discuss the City’s Shooting Range. The Board will then vote to go into closed session to discuss contracts, litigation and personnel. The Public Hearing and Meeting of the Planning & Zoning Commission and the meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman are open to the public.

An accident occurred Friday at 3:45 in the afternoon on Dent County Road 4110 three miles east of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol Report 16-year-old Coby D. Botkin was southbound in a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer when he attempted to avoid an animal in the roadway. The Blazer began skidding, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned. According to the report Botkin was wearing a safety restraint, sustained minor injury and was transported to Salem Memorial District Hospital by SMDH Ambulance. The Blazer sustained minor damage and was removed from the scene by the owner.

An accident occurred at 7:10 Saturday evening on Highway 32 about two miles west of Salem.  According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by 50-year old Brenda K. Blankenship of Salem was waiting in traffic to make a left turn and was struck in the rear by a 1995 Jeep Wrangler driven by 18-year old James K. Dingess of Salem. Brenda Blankenship along with a passenger in the Jeep Liberty, 53- year old David K. Blankenship, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Salem Memorial District Hospital by SMDH ambulance. Everyone was wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

Yadier Molina finished with two hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in a season-high four runs as St. Louis emerged with a 6-3 decision over Kansas City in the opener of a two-game interleague series. Allen Craig added three hits and knocked in a run, with Matt Carpenter contributing an RBI double for the Cardinals, winners in six of their last eight. Adam Wainwright (7-3) lasted eight innings, giving up 12 hits and three runs, fanning five without a walk. Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer each plated a run, while David Lough added four hits and scored once for the Royals, whose season-long losing skid reached six games. James Shields (2-6) surrendered nine hits and six runs over six full frames, walking five with four strikeouts. The Cardinals and Royals play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio at 6:35.

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled right-handed pitcher Victor Marte from Triple-A Memphis and rookie pitcher Michael Blazek from Double-A Springfield. To make room on the roster, St. Louis optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez to Memphis and placed left-handed starter John Gast on the 15-day disabled list.

Funeral services for John Arthur Stogsdill Sr. of Rolla, age 78, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time.

Funeral services for Lester E. Boyer of Rolla, age 59, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery in Waynesville with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Wanda Lee Todd of Boss, age 85, will be held on Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association.

Funeral services for Lyndel Ray Pine of Steelville, age 66, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Frank Edward Wiget of Steelville, age 75, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Golden Echoes, the Steelville Scholarship fund or the Steelville Community Child Care Center.

Funeral services for Doris Mae Wood of Salem, age 85, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Wood Family.

A memorial service for Melvin Miller of Salem, age 59, will be Thursday at 7:00 PM at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 until the time of service.
