The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report on an incident this week. On May 26
th the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a call from the Salem Police Department reporting a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 19, and the occupants were reported to be in possession of firearms and cocaine. The reported vehicle was observed by a Deputy at the intersection of Highway 19 and Fourth Street in Salem. A vehicle stop was made just north of the Highway19 and 68 junctions with the assistance of the Salem Police Department. The investigation at the scene led to a bottle being produced, by one of the subjects that contained capsules of a white crystalline substance. A field test of the substance indicated positive for heroin/opiates. 41-year old Timothy Jerome Hughes of St. Louis was taken into custody and was charged with one felony count for Drugs-Heroin-Possession and one felony count of Drugs-Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The Salem Police Department released their reports involving tampering, leaving the scene of an accident and disorderly conduct. On May 9th at 2:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted in reference to tampering with a witness. The report revealed that the suspect of a case openly threatened a witness in the courtroom. On May 9th at 5:39 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to a leaving the scene of an accident at the junction of Highway 32 and 19. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of three adults and the detention of two juveniles. 50-year old Mary Botkin and 21-year old Ashley Dixon, both of Salem, were each charged with one felony count of hindering prosecution with a $5,000 cash only bond. 22-year old Brandon Terrill of Salem was charged with one felony count of leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, and one felony count of resisting or interfering with an arrest. Both those counts carried a $10,000 cash only bond. Terrill was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of a child in the 2nd degree with a $2,000 cash only bond. A 16-year old female juvenile was detained for leaving the scene of an accident and interfering with an arrest. Another 16-year old female juvenile was detained for leaving the scene of an accident, interfering with an arrest and failure to show proof of insurance. Both juveniles were released to their parents and will be referred to the juvenile officer. On May 17th at 11:46 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem male for trespassing and disorderly conduct.
An accident happened at 9:20 Tuesday morning, May 20
th at the intersection of Highway 72 and Route J in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a green 1996 Chrysler Cirrus LX driven by Delbert Pruitt of Salem was in the yield lane on Route J entering Highway 32. A red 2000 Chevy Impala driven by Mary Robinson-Black of Salem was behind the Chrysler and failed to stop, striking the Chrysler from behind. A passenger in the Chrysler, Martha Pruitt suffered minor injuries and sought her own treatment. The Chrysler sustained minor damage and the Chevy sustained moderate damage.

The SCA All Conference baseball teams included six Salem Tigers. Named to the All SCA Second Team were pitcher Ethan Curley, infielder Tyler Washhausen, and utility player Brandon Plank. Named to the All SCA Honorable Mention Team were outfielder Andrew Karr, outfielder C.J. Smith, and pitcher Grant Gordon. Congratulations Tigers!
Hunter Pence had his first career five-hit game and drove in a pair of runs as the Houston Astros steamrolled the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-2, in the opener of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Miguel Tejada belted a two-run home run for the Astros. Albert Pujols went 4-for-4 with a solo homer for the Cardinals, who have dropped two straight after a three-game win streak. Brian Barton also homered in the losing effort. Braden Looper (6-4) was roughed up in the loss, surrendering eight runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits and three walks in 4 1/3 frames. The two teams play again tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio.
Michael Cuddyer went 3-for-6 and had two runs batted in, including the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning to push the Minnesota Twins past the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set. Justin Morneau and Alexi Casilla each recorded three hits for the Twins. Mark Teahen went 2-for-5 with a three-run, inside-the-park home run for the Royals, who have dropped nine in a row. Miguel Olivo went 3-for-5 and scored a run in defeat. David DeJesus had two singles. Brian Bannister started for K.C. and went five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits in the no-decision. Leo Nunez (3-1) took the loss after he gave up a run on two hits and two walks in the 12th. The Royals and Twins will play again tonight.
